Thats to be seen. The federal government can absolutely take the states to court and force them to be opened. Separation of church and state also means the state cant discriminate against chruches

Yeah but which place are you more likely to wear a mask?

In church people often shake hands - not happening in a porn shop

Let’s see what other fun I can have with this:p

States are not discriminating against them if they are closing other businesses as well. If they were saying only churches have to close you would have a point — but they aren’t, so you don’t.

The separation of church and state is so far blurred that it is an irrelevant metric at this point

The government is going to vaccinate you whether you want it or not. You seem to love the Repubs. Do you want them to do it or would you rather the Dems do it so that you will be able to whine about it for the next 50 years?

If you spend an hour in either place, you’re doing it wrong

God is certainly essential to a great many people. We can agree there. But personal prayer shows that the church isn't always essential. And the churches have managed to satisfy their congregants' needs for communal worship online.

But the issue isn't whether or not they are essential - it is about the nature of communal worship. For at least an hour, people will be in a very large group. That doesn't happen in porn shops or liquor stores.

Many of the churches that opened May 1st are becoming hotspots.

It's not a legal decision. The state cannot interfere with the practice of religion. First amendment.

Next time the political Left should probably go with a candidate who's NOT senile and they should probably embrace a political platform that consists of something other than Orange Man Bad. It would at least give them a fighting chance. It is interesting though that they are shocked -- shocked I say! -- that conservatives whom support the Constitution, should also have selected a president back in 2016 who also supports the Constitution. Freedom of Religion does NOT equate to the death of religious practices just because an iffy national crisis seems to have given the political Left that opportunity.

The Governors used State Emergency Government Laws - hence my use of the term 'legal'. Thirty two states declared a state of emergency, and within that framework, churches can be closed if it is done so to save lives. And the federal government does not have the power to override a state's decision about that state of emergency.

It is true, haven’t you learned anything about Trump in the last four years, everything or anything Trump does is about Trump, he don’t give a rat’s ass about religion

it is simple, Trump is pimping religion during a crisis for his own political ends

No he doesn’t, you are naive to think so, all Trump cares about is Trump, he is a narcissist, he could have or accomplish everything in the world, and it still wouldn’t make him content

Not sure what the big deal is … the alleged all-powerful god will surely protect its flock from nasty corona in a church, for christ's sake … right, believers?

The DOJ can sue individual states for violating their citizens constitutional rights and perhaps withhold Federal Funding.

Religious congregations have not been restricted because of disagreement with the religious ideas. All social gatherings have been banned regardless of the content and context. society has a compelling State interest in banning 1000 people from getting together in a crowded building during a highly contagious pandemic, regardless of why they do it

But according to the Constitution, the government cannot interfere with the free exercise of religion.

no court has ever ruled that.

if a church is infected with the plague, you can bet your ass the state has the right to shut it down.

if a church has construction issues and may injure people, state has the right to shut it down.

all buildings can be temporarily or permanently shut down, if there is a safety risk to the public

LOL!!!!! jesus can be worshipped in any structure or outdoors. Jesus, doesn't need walls to be worshipped.

Free exercise means free. Unlimited by what the state deems acceptable.

But here we have a blanket ban on all churches, not a specific one.

Are you offering to bet your ass on closing down churches. I'll offer a nickle against your ass and take that bet@

you are 100% wrong, and you know it.

if the structural integrity of a church building is in serious doubt, the state may shut it down.

if the church is infested with plague-carrying rats, the state may shut it down.

these are facts, deal with it.
