"It is unacceptable for Texans who suffered through days in the freezing cold without electricity or heat to now be hit with skyrocketing energy costs," Abbott said. "To protect families, I am actively working with the Lieutenant Governor, the Speaker of the House and members of the Legislature to develop solutions to ensure that Texans are not on the hook for unreasonable spikes in their energy bills."

Funny, a government solution seems to be exactly what Abbott is looking for. It's as typical in GOP land: Privatize the gains, socialize the losses.

No, Abbott is not looking for a federal solution, he's looking for temporary relief, and it's not surprising to me at all that the Biden administration is dragging its feet on giving it to him.

What help is he getting from Biden? Sounds to me like Biden is giving him the cold shoulder.

WOW. Guess you didn’t research this one very hard did you. More disinformation

    https://www.energy.gov/sites/prod/files/2021/02/f82/DOE 202(c) Emergency Order - ERCOT 02.14.2021.pdf

Took me 5 minutes to find the document that Huizenga DID sign to approve the emergency order.

I assume you will post a retraction and an apology ;)

As of Friday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency had delivered 729,000 liters of water, more than 10,000 wool blankets and 50,000 cotton blankets, and 225,000 meals in Fort Worth, Texas. The federal agency also has provided emergency generators and fuel to help maintain critical infrastructure. FEMA sends supplies upon a state’s request.

Why do you really care? You said fed gov't help is not wanted. Now you're complaining it isn't fast enough. You a socialist?

You're lying. I said the Federal government is not the solution, but it should be granting temporary relief where temporary relief is needed.

And you're lying. The fed gov't gave relief as of Friday. FEMA sends supplies upon state's request.

Why should the fed gov't grant help? That's socialism.
Tx wanted to remain free of the fed gov't with their electricity. Now you think the taxpayer should bail out Tx for their greedy decisions?

If only you, and everyone else so far, had took the 5 minutes to read the OP article which breaks down the sections in that order and demonstrates why, no, Biden's DOE didn't actually help.

The excuse making has gotten pathetic. Private companies without regulation cannot fail without regulation, because that is their belief system.

Tx is a go alone state. They don't need outside help. And the they bid it out to the lowest bidder.

Not if they have to ask the Biden administration for permission to generate enough power to keep 30 million citizens from freezing to death. Ridiculous.

Sure....you can purchase extra energy at a minimum mandated price of $1,500/MWh.

The average retail price to customers for electricity is about $125/MWh.

Price gouging by the Biden administration.

AGAIN, you cannot be serious here. Have you seen what Customers are being charged by Texas Power companies ?

How would Texas “purchase” power, they aren’t connected to any other grids ?

This wasn't caused by Texas regulators. This was caused by the requirements of the Biden administration.

Price gouging American citizens during a humanitarian crisis. Shameful.

    .

Reckless endangerment is a crime consisting of acts that create a substantial risk of serious physical injury to another person. The accused person isn't required to intend the resulting or potential harm, but must have acted in a way that showed a disregard for the foreseeable consequences of the actions.

Texas had to ask permission from the federal government to bring it's own power plants back online to meet demand. The government gave permission, but set an artificially high price floor of $1,500/MWh minimum purchase price. They gouged the state in time of crisis in order to "allow" the state to use its own natural resources. Shameful response from the Biden administration.

How soon can Biden be impeached? January 2023, when a new House of Reps is seated.

Griddy laid the blame with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which manages the vast majority of the state's grid, and the Public Utility Commission of Texas. As the storm caused temperatures across the state to plummet early last week, the utility commission ordered ERCOT to allow prices to increase to reflect the lack of supply. As a result, electricity prices skyrocketed.

The average price for electricity in Texas in the winter is about 12 cents per kilowatt-hour, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Texas utility regulators allowed that price to rise to $9 per kilowatt-hour.

    The answer is:
    Because they can. :)
