No I don't think it is a mystery as you said, his control of the media pretty much secures his election. I get your point about him being counter to the EU's regulations, but I mean look at Tony O'Reilly, he pretty much controlled the private media here in Ireland along with the Heinz corporation. He was without doubt Ireland's most influential man before Dennis O'Brien arrived on the scene, on top of that Berlusconi is a lap dog for the EU commission and was even being touted as a potential EU president. Mystery to me it seems.
