I think this is the right action. If Congressional subpoenas are not enforced, then the power of congress is nil, and that's not good for America.

    About time, I say.

The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot will "swiftly consider" holding one-time Trump White House adviser Steve Bannon, and potentially others, in contempt of Congress for ignoring committee subpoenas, committee chairman Bennie Thompson vice-chair Liz Cheney said Friday.

Jan. 6 Committee Chair: Witnesses Who Defy Subpoenas Will Face Criminal Contempt Referrals

Chairman Bennie Thompson told NBC News that the January 6th Select Committee has been meeting with voluntary witnesses, while also preparing to use criminal contempt referrals for subpoenaed witnesses who defy their orders. Paul Butler tells Jonathan Capehart that these criminal contempt referrals could carry significant weight under the Biden administration.

We saw how that works with Holder and Lerner, nothing happens to them.

Grow a spine and do it

Seems they are going to, per today's statement from Thompson.... at least against Sloppy Steve, who has ZERO protections available to him

However, the more interesting part of this article is the news in bold, although color me skeptical until asses are in seats (and I mean that in every aspect of the phrase)

    SNIP
He added the panel will convene Tuesday evening to vote on adopting a contempt report against Bannon.

Bannon and former senior Pentagon aide Kash Patel faced a Thursday deadline to comply with the subpoenas. The committee expects former White House communications aide Dan Scavino and former chief of staff Mark Meadows to sit for depositions on Friday.

I think it's cute that you thought the sitting AG would process a criminal contempt change against the sitting AG....

Also, let's discuss who might have a better EP claim, AG Holder or Podcaster Bannon??

Imaging thinking going through a rolodex of people you don't like to punish them for a spur of the moment thing they had nothing to do with and calling it justice.

I know that every time I was served with a subpoena I was informed that I either had to appear or face the possibility of going to jail. Is there some exception for filthy greasy haired unkept slobs that I am unaware of? If so, please cite it.

Refusing a congressional subpoena is now “nothing” — can I quote you when a democrat does so?

Yes, the landmark case "Brown vs the Board of Education" covers that.....

(it really doesn't, but in case Bannon's lawyers read this site, I imagine they'll work that in their briefs - and not give me any credit)

Correct. When Clapper, Brennan, Comey, and everyone else under the Sun is allowed to lie under oath in front of congress with no penalty.... pssshhhhhh.

Bannon will likely have to come in, but you will learn nothing. Again, this is political drama queen level crap, when Congress should be solving some problems.

LOL, if I got a subpoena for something I had nothing to do with, I'd gladly show up and make that immensely clear...

    Wouldn't you?? Wouldn't anybody??

I think it's time for a little Occam's Razor for you...

Hmm... I wonder what's considered worse in MAGA land?? Showing up for a subpoena or lying during the resulting testimony?

    Tough call, I'm sure...

Yea, its called executive privilege. Dems have gone rabid and want things they have no business having, things that have zero relevance to the events of that day. And even if neither of those were true, executive privilege would still prevent it.

I mean you can but it wouldn't be a valid quote since that's not what I said. But hey, it never stops CNN... or MSNBC... or HuffPo, Buzzfeed, ABC, Trevor Noah, AOC, Pelosi, /sigh ok I don't have all night... it never stops progressives, there that covers it.

Uh huh, well its not just about showing up and answer questions now is it? They want documents from the Trump Administration they have no business having, documents that are simply not relevant at all.

Executive privilege does not pertain to losers who are out of office or private citizens who were under indictment for swindling....Look it up.

Haha, ok, well here's whats going to happen. The butthurts will surely vote to hold Bannon in contempt but you see that doesn't mean hes actually in contempt of anything other than Congress which is, well, meaningless. The butthurts will then have to go judge shopping, which surely they will do, to find a libfedy who will sign off on starting the entire process of requesting documents all over again which, if successful, can lead to an order to produce said documents which presumably Bannon would refuse and then a judge could ultimately place him under a contempt order that actually means something. Except before that last part is carried out a different, competent judge will inset a stay on the order to hand over documents thus nullifying the contempt order aka no punishment. Of course there are many steps beyond that but you see by the time we even make it this far we'll be well into 2022 and midterms and the re-activation of the BLM/ANTIFA terrorist cells nation wide rioting not to mention how bad the inflation and supply shortages will be by then...

Point is you better take a big ass breath my guy because you'll be holding it for quite a while.

The only butts hurting will be Bannon’s champ....He will wind up in the same place Trump and Barr had Epstein whacked.

Totally different topic and I'm pretty sure there are threads out there for that...

And YOU have zero idea of their relevance... The Biden administration fully disagrees with you on the first set of documents, and even T**** is fine with the great majority going.... just not the incriminating ones...

This is about showing up.... it's criminal not to... PERIOD....

Whether Bannon is sober enough to answer questions or take the 5th when he gets there is another story...

Donald Trump mounted an overnight Twitter blitz demanding to jail his political enemies and call out allies he says are failing to arrest his rivals swiftly enough.
