Good catch... I've never noticed her wearing nail polish before... maybe the girls painted 'em for her?

    (strange color choice)

I noticed that she was wearing blue nail polish with her DNC convention dress from the first night of the convention. I thought that it was odd because I have never really seen her wear polish before. In fact, her nicely manicured hands are probably her best feature. (Hey! I said something positive about our FLOTUS!:w00t:) The blue polish is just weird IMHO.

So, if Michelle Obama is allegedly such a fashion trendsetter, then why is it that no one tries to copy her "style"? I mean, does anyone really go and purchase a lot of sleeveless loud print dresses so they can be like Michelle? Are people clamoring to wear a boob belt with most of their outfits? I think not. Any sense of being a fashion icon or trendsetter is all in her own mind - or all in the mind of her loyal political supporters. You would think that Anna Wintour, a BIG TIME bundler for the Obama campaign, could give Michelle some fashion tips.

The Duchess of Cambridge wears an outfit and it immediately flies off the shelf after she wears it in public. THAT is being a trendsetter or a fashion icon. And the Duchess would never be caught wearing orange or turquoise shoes.

Agree about the nail polish. Kind of weird.

Couldn't agree more. It's bizarre what some so-called 'fashion watchers' say about style. Def makes one go, whaaaaat?

msnbc: FLOTUS FASHION -- MICHELLE OBAMA'S LATEST LOOKS
The first lady of fashion topped-off a stylish Democratic National Convention showing in a gorgeous deep purple boat neck eggplant printed Laura Smalls dress, as she sat with her mom, Marian Robinson, to watch President Obama's much-anticipated speech, in Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012.

The First Lady looked her Best Ever — stunning in a patriotic pear-shape flattering dress that stole the show!
Michelle Obama has become an icon in the fashion world. From formal gowns to casual everyday outfits, Michelle is an expert at dressing for her figure. Last night, she proved yet again why designers everywhere love her to wear their clothes!

At the Democratic National Convention, Michelle wore a knee-length pink Tracy Reese dress accented with J.Crew’s Everly Suede pumps and very minimal jewelry. The custom-made silk dress featured gold prints and a gorgeous lavender hem! And in typical Michelle fashion, the ensemble showed off her famous toned arms better than ever!

And we aren’t the only ones happy with Michelle’s choice. Designer Tracy Reese said: “In the midst of fashion week preparations, seeing the First Lady in one of my designs was a truly extraordinary moment. She evokes so much confidence, strength and humility. I am so proud she chose to wear our dress!”

Who knew it was a pear-shaped dress and not her pear-shaped body.

And these people call themselves fashion experts.

Your comment raises the question of the FLOTUS "thinking of herself as a fashion trendsetter".

I see that statement alot in the Right Wing hit blogs like this one.

In fact, this thread's OP says EXACTLY that:
So my question to either of you is simply how about posting to us where the FLOTUS makes this claim?

one doesn't HAVE to sit down for an interview and say "Hello, I am a trendsetter". One only has to go out and constantly hold herself up as being better than everyone else and insisting they could run everyone else's lifes better than the people themselves can if only they would let her do so.

I know subtlety is hard for lefties but do try to keep up..

Gotta wonder where Fiddlerdave has been hiding for the last 4 years?

Michelle Obama is well on her way to shaping a uniquely American style
    Chicago Tribune
    November 12, 2008

A new big O is ascending on the fashion scene.

Incoming First Lady Michelle Obama is poised to be the new Oprah and the next Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis—combined!—for designers, retailers and fashion aficionados. (Does that make her a double-O agent of change? Hmmm.)

When Obama, 44, posed Monday for photos at the White House, she wore a tomato-colored sheath with clean lines that Kennedy Onassis might have approved, designed by a talent that Oprah helped expose in the '90s, Chicago-based Maria Pinto.

    The parallels don't stop there.

After Obama wore J. Crew on "The Tonight Show" and a White House/Black Market dress on "The View," the pieces sold out the next day.

    Very Oprah.

When Obama wore a modified cocktail dress by Narciso Rodriguez on Election Night, she stood in fiery contrast to televised images of Jill Biden, Sarah Palin and Cindy McCain in traditional suits.

Very Jackie. (Anyone old enough to remember Kennedy on Inauguration Day? At age 31, she eschewed the full-length furs worn by other matrons, opting for a beige wool coat edged in fur. "So the first impression you had of Jackie," recounted designer Oleg Cassini, "was of a very young woman surrounded by bears.")

"Michelle Obama will have a huge impact on fashion," said Heiji Choy, 30, owner of the progressive design shop Hejfina in Chicago's Bucktown. "Some people say she's going to be comparable to Jackie O. But I think she has an even more elevated sense. She's not afraid to mix high and low, whereas Jackie was a little bit more rarefied. Mixing high and low is what modern fashion is now."

How many times has Glamour Mag been to the WH? More than a few... they're one of Michelle's fav personal horn-tooters.

Too bad she doesn't seem to notice the fashion advice they give to other women. Like 50 yr old women who wear a size 14 shouldn't wear outfits like this in broad daylight:

 Yeah, successful lawyer, mother, First Lady of the USA in a long-term ONLY marriage with a dedicated husband and spends her time trying to help children to be healtheir and better educated! How can she POSSIBLY have any PRIDE in her ACCOMPLISHMENTS, the arrogant b***h!

So what YOU ACTUALLY have is that many of the things she wears are selling out and her styles being touted by the highly paid fashionistas of our society.

As for WHAT MICHELLE OBAMA "considers herself", has "CLAIMED for herself", or otherwise has made the SLIGHTEST REFERENCE TO IN HER WRITINGS, STATEMENTS or ACTIVITIES, YOU HAVE ZERO, ZIP, NADA for YOUR CLAIMS of her "arrogance" or the very IDEA she "CONSIDERS HERSELF A TRENDSETTER".

God, it must be miserable to be so full of hate and envy,

unfortunately the first impression I had of Moooooochelle, was of a poorly dressed drag queen lumbering around on heels for the first time

see, Fiddlerdave? This kind of crap and fawning is what makes us gag...she is just a rather drab ordinary woman, not the embodiment of perfection everyone up there is ooooing and awwwing about.

I agree, the FLOTUS is one classy woman. she brings intellegence and beauty to the ugluy world of political faces.

IMO, she has not been a trendsetter because most of her fashon is high end, up scale stuff.

Nevertheless, the FLOTUS has a swagger of humbleness and courage with confidence other young americans can admire. She is also intellutually competent with a high degree of stage presence and intellect. She is assertive yet humble when needed, and her figure is very Obamaesq. Slender with just the right curves in the right places.

Most fashon trolls go after youg hip movie entertainment star studded wardrobe, not high end classy political drab.

The people who are "oohing and aahhing" are the usual PARASITES who are trying to make money off of an accomplished person's accomplishments.

Why you hold Michelle responsible for their self-centered behavior is a true sign of absurdity.

The FLOTUS does not realy need a boob belt. Her shape is more slender with just the right balance of boobs hips. And in the picture it shows that a slim woman does not need a boob belt. In fact that one is too thin, it would have been better if it was wider to give the FLOTUS a shorter and wider look.

Boob belts work better on hardy women with large boobs and large hips and the belt helps give the hardy women a slimmer waist appearance.

If you don't blieve me, just go ask Stacy and Clinton.

She probably just has a really high waistline, which wouldn't surprise me since her legs are pretty long.

I wonder if she's just fallen for the trap of 'focus on your best asset' and since everyone compliments her on her arms, she tends to want to bare them...which unbalances her and winds up exaggerating her bottom.

or maybe it's a cultural thing, sometimes it seems she goes out of her way to make her behind look even bigger than it is with the full gathered skirts and bizarre prints...*shrug*

the boob belt thing does remind me of my grandmother though...she wore her belt that high because it wouldn't fit around her belly..

Exactly, which makes all her belts end up looking like boob belts.

Wonder where she got this fascination with belts? Most women hardly ever wear 'em... Michelle doesn't seem to be able to go a day without one.

It's curious. They're definitely not flattering on her.

ROFLMAO... thank you. That's it exactly... except with Michelle, it's her rear that's impossible to circumvent... therefore belts have to be up around her ribcage.

    I think it's physics...

Guess you don't have much fashion sense, huh? Not our fault the FLOTUS provides so much material. Feel free to start a fashion-watching thread on Ann Romney next year. Doubt if you'll have anything this good to post... but you never know!

this is the PERFECT example of her fashion faux pas...it has so many of them...from the too small sweater that doesn't go with the dress, to the incredibly full 'little girl Sunday dress' skirt to the ridiculously HIGH waist on the dress to those SHOEs...oy!

and I try NOT to think about the bare legs in those closed toe shoes...how SMELLY they must be at the end of the day...a veritable breeding ground for bacteria (I was just reading an article on Yahoo about surprising sources of BO and this was in the top...bare feet in closed shoes...ugh!)
