How many must end up being used for crime before we do something? Other nations are much more restrictive about their ownership and use, with the result being that people who want to go hunting or target shooting with them get to do so while gun homicides and suicides are kept down to a much lower rate than ours.

Eric Holder aside, how do we get all of these guns off the streets?

More people are killed in cars every year. How many must end up being killed before we do something?

    that's a ridiculous argument

motor vehicles are necessary for transportation and they save countless lives

this report seems to make it quite clear

Connecticut school shooter used assault rifle, had many bullets

NEWTOWN, Conn. – School shooter Adam Lanza carried hundreds of bullets when he shot his way into Sandy Hook Elementary School and used an assault rifle to do most of the killing, authorities confirmed Sunday.

Lanza, 20, fired a Bushmaster .223 semiautomatic rifle to kill many of the 20 children and six adults at the school Friday, Connecticut State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance said. He used a Glock 10-millimeter handgun to shoot himself in the head. He also carried at Sig Sauer pistol. A shotgun, the type of which was not identified, was found in the trunk of Lanza’s car outside the school.

“The Bushmaster was used in the school, in its entirety, and [a] handgun was used to take his own life,” Vance said.

But it looks so scary it just has to be very bbbbaaaddd!!!!! And it's semi-automatic!!! Look at that clip. It's so long and angry! It has an evil eye on it that allows the shooter to zero in on his target. Plus it's black!!! It's way too evil for people to have.

Now this is an assault weapon = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOoUVeyaY_8

the issue isn't looks, it's the extended rapid-fire capability which makes possible, assaults that can kill lots of people very quickly

I can break it down Barney style if you like...

If I shoot you in the head with a .22 pocket pistol then you will die. If I blow your head and shoulders off with a .50 caliber rifle you are also going to die.

One of these isn't going to kill you any further than the other one. Understand?

you're not getting it, hand guns may have a place as defensive weapons

assault rifles don't, except in military combat

A Beretta 9mm pistol with a 40 round drum magazine can rapid fire just as fast, if not faster, and for just as long as a semi automatic "assault" rifle.

Says who? You? Why can't I use an assault rifle for defense if I wanted to? (I wouldn't but thats not the point). Are assault rifles too powerful even though they fire a similar sized round as a normal pistol yet at a higher velocity and can penetrate more stuff?

My .50 cal Desert Eagle handgun will go through a whole lot more crap than my hollow tip 7.62mm AK-47 rounds will...

But its still a handgun, ban that?

Jefferson said, "The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first. "

In progressive gun control land, the citizen is the enemy and must be controlled.

So your problem is with how many rounds these things can hold. So if I had two 9mm Berettas both with 50 round drum magazines is that really any better than a single M4 with a 100rd drum magazine? Both are available and both are legal. Why ban one and not the other?

because of its potential for abuse

there's talk of banning magazines that hold more than ten rounds

    that sounds reasonable to me

So are you saying that I am more likely to abuse an assault rifle and not a handgun? I can EASILY sneak a handgun pretty much anywhere on the planet without a metal detector. A large fraction of people, including myself, carry legal handguns everyday around here and nobody notices. Thats a bit harder to do with an AK-47.

Gosh, there is a lot of "potential for abuse" sitting around your house. How can we trust you, a law abiding citizen, not to stab your family to death with knives or a club them with a baseball bat or run them over with your car?

Dujac's arguments are not rational. The response to this is not a rational response but an emotional one most often based on lack of any knowledge of what they are talking about.

no, i'm say other guns can be used for defense

the assault rifle's potential for abuse makes it dangerous

as the recent shooting clearly demonstrates

no there's not, quit being ridiculous

you're completely wrong again and there's nothing emotional in my responses

And Im telling you that I have a .50 cal Desert Eagle HANDGUN that will do more damage under almost any circumstance than any standard assault rifle could. If I wanted to I could shoot that thing at my wall and take out the neighbor, their neighbors, and the ones next door to them. My AR-15 can't do that.
