Officers with guns at every school doorway may well be the only answer as horrible a picture as that conjures up. It's sad to think so many people think that and mass shootings are an acceptable price to pay to maintain free and unfettered access to any kind of weapon they want.

And what next? Have armed guards at the doorways to malls, churches, political gatherings and so forth to try to prevent these "innocent" weapons being used on innocent people?

 

There were four weapons. The Bushmaster was on his person, a fourth unidentified long rifle was in the car. Early reports were that it was a shotgun. I would have expected a rifle with a scope.

The reason it was reported that she substitute taught at the school was because someone who claimed to be close to the family apparently said she did, how it snowballed into she was a kindergarten teacher and dead at the school... that is just rumors on the ground being reported. They say over and over throughout the broadcasts that these things are not confirmed... but we are a soundbite society full of blogs... which snip pieces coming to their own conclusions. Foolardi no doubt believes this was a Manchurian candidate or some such... we are a huge part of the problem. Those rushing to politicise being the worst offenders... but I was also providing details as they came through... posting the picture of the brother of the shooter suggesting he was the shooter. I don't want to own that but it is true... I want to blame the media because I did exactly what I would blame them for.

Sort of a cast the first stone issue IMO.

 

How is it that every time there is an incident like this, the gunman has to be sick and twisted? Is that the standard NRA patter? What if Lanza was just temporarily pissed-off?

I don't care much for guns.. To me they are not a symbol of masculinity.. and I have never really been in need of one.

I had a German 45 years ago.. that my father gave me.. I kept it unloaded in a hatbox in the top of a closet in the master bedroom.

One afternoon I found my 3 year old playing with it on the bed.. Holy Fluck.. He was comparing it with a plastic squirt gun. I nearly had a heart attack.

I had a small caliber handgun for a long time. Like you, I kept it unloaded on top of a highboy in my bedroom. When the grandchildren got old enough to climb and explore and one of them actually found it one day, I got rid of it. I live alone and probably should have one, but the danger of one of the children finding both the gun and the bullets and shooting themselves or each other is too great IMO. I'd rather take my chances.

Yeah, it's disgusting, but my point is that it doesn't do any good to say somebody is mentally ill the day after. Why wasn't he mentally ill the day before or the day of?

 

The problem is the media reports on things as fact when they are anything but. The spokespersons reporting on things that are later changed as well. Why you don't seem to have a problem with the amount of misinformation put forth by the press and those tasked with providing information to the public is beyond me.

but its rapid-fire capability put three to eleven holes in each, of most of those kids

it worked well enough to kill 26 people in a short time

 

Close quarter using an AR-15 runs a better chance of the bullet not coming to wobble and passing right through without causing a lot of damage. A 22 can cause a lot of damage close in and in the case of a head shot, can ricochet inside the skull cavity causing massive damage. Now, the gasses from an AR-15 held to a skull can actually pop the brain out of the skull.

 

And he was using two semi-auto 9mm handguns.

 

Once you are 18 you are required to be an adult. How many of these situations have you seen evolve. Please don't be a John McCain and be 80 years old and getting surprised initial reports aren't 100% accurate.
