Yet another state with the courage to do the right thing.

Notice that the lefties are already screaming racism, and the Mexican government is spouting off as if it should have a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing thing to say about it.

Great move by Alabama! Hopefully more states follow suit. Hopefully more states follow through with Florida's no nonsense welfare measure.

There is hope for this nation yet!

I still don't get this. How do you know if someone looks illegal?

How do you know if you look illegal? How do you know to carry your papers?

The article says police can attempt to determine the status of someone who they suspect might be here illegally. For example, someone who can hardly speak English. If they check out... no big deal, everyone goes about their day. It's not as if they would let an illegal German, Thai... whatever, get off the hook.

I like that this new law also puts heat on those who aid illegal immigrants.

Looks like someone has overstayed their welcome :)

Why carry papers when you can have an ID? I carry mine everywhere I go.

Even if carrying some kind of papers is law for someone of a particular legal status... why should it be a big deal? Just carry the papers, problem solved. Even if they don't have their "papers" surely things can be sorted out before being shipped off.

And then released once things are sorted out.

I don't believe I would have such a problem with this if I were a foreign national. I'd just obey the law. If I were illegal, well I guess I'd deserve whatever is coming to me.

    That's absurd. Detained for nothing.

All sorts of people are "detained for nothing", when originally the officer had a suspicion of some sort. If they've done nothing wrong, they are free to go.

I was detained once... kind of a long story, in a nutshell someone thought I had a car amp that had been stolen from them, when in fact what I had in my backpack was an old PS2 I wanted to sell. So I get to the pawnshop and the police show up shortly afterwards. I was handcuffed and everything. I stayed calm because I knew I'd done nothing wrong. Sure enough a few minutes later I was free.

    No big deal.

If there was a huge problem with Illegal Candians, and there was some sort of distinguishing feature that set them apart from the majority of people in the U.S., you'd see the same thing.

If Mexico had a huge problem with illegal White Americans... or any American with an accent, you'd see the same thing.

Mexico really has nothing to (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) about. They have been leeching off the U.S. for long enough (remittances) and treat their Illegals far worse than we do.

It's like they say, don't go through the South without identifiecation. What kind of documents or papers do non white people need while traveling through the state? And who will do the house cleaning and maid work for the politicians? In fact, those politician should be harboring illegals and terrorist. I think there needs to be an investigation.

You need to keep papers that most wouldn't carry around with them.

United States passport, issued without limitation, even if it is expired; or
Certificate of Naturalization – N-550 or N-570; or
    Certificate of Citizenship – N-560 or N-561.

Agreed. This is also one of the few immigration laws that actually addresses employers of illegals.

Now people will keep those documents on them. When do you go to another country and not keep your documents on you? Never leave your passport when traveling around in a differant country.

If you're a legal resident, how do you know if you look illegal?

are your serious? Are you saying that if you are not from this country you dont know it? People, ALL PEOPLE, will have to decide if they will keep id on themselves. If you have a German accent cary ID, if you are not from this country carry ID, shoot if you go out and do stuff carry ID.

Yes, the first time you're fined the second offense loses its license. I was shocked when I read the bill, I relly didn't expect the bill to be as good as it is. The harboring of iilegals is even punishable by jail time with a second offence. I proud to see this bill signed, look for the lawsuits though, should go in effect in September

I honestly don't know what to think of this law. In a way, I am opposed to it but in a way, I also support it. I guess I'd be okay with it if it was altered a little to make a little less likely to be used as a racial profiling type of thing.

This absurd law will never even go into effect. It'll get struck down before that day ever comes.

And if you're from Boston vacationing in Texas? It's solely based on having an accent?
