DC is, in fact, staggeringly expensive.

Like New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia and an ever-growing number of US cities (including their suburban areas), even the middle class struggle to afford residency there.

Good on her for bringing this issue to the forefront.

No, it's just that most people who get elected to congress didn't work as a WAITRESS in their most recent job, so her situation is a bit unusual. Not knocking her, just saying. Most people aren't the youngest person in their gender ever elected to congress, like she is. So unlike the rich, corrupt, elderly, career-politician lawyers who have a "foundation", that usually get elected, Cortez is quite different. But like most politicians, the crooked money will soon start flowing in for Cortez.

She'll likely accumulate at least a couple million over the next two years out of thin air, maybe a swank house, undoubtedly due to curing cancer or inventing the new internet game craze, or she could go the Clinton route of "speaking fees" and "book deals." Have always wondered do the lobbies/unions/crony companies buy the books out of stores subtly or just brazenly order thousands of cases of them direct from the publisher? Such a Renaissance Woman. Oh the joys of capitalism and public service for erstwhile "Democratic Socialists!"
