And as for suicides, those numbers could be reduced with a program to allow suicidal people to voluntarily turn their guns over to friends or relatives for safekeeping until they get better. Not by much. Statistics are quite clear that gun availability has little impact on homicide rates.

Many of those 20,000 lives would be saved by a system for people to voluntarily turn their guns over to friends or relatives for safekeeping until they are better. And if you care about saving lives, instead of focusing on guns you should be focusing on outlawing private ownership of automobiles. Outlawing cars would save a lot more lives.
