Think about cities like Cleveland, Detroit, New Orleans, and St. Louis. States dominated by Republicans.

She was put on the fast track to be a principal and learned it consumed her a lot more than she expected and requested going back to the class room. There they rapidly asked her to be the vice principal where she has a lot more free time. This makes two times she has been a vice principal.

Many times the state is red with the cities blue.

Ty for the heads up. I did not realize that it was an entire article, and it was too long to read carefully.

Republicans do not run any of those cities. Governors do not run any of our DP ruled urban hell holes.

I suppose theoretically governors could declare an emergency and have the national guard occupy the cities.
What should they do with the cities after they take them over?

It is worth another viewing. You could find the dance scene and scroll back to their arrival at the federal shelter.

I can see how income taxes might make it easier for government to boost revenue, but I have trouble seeing why the popular election of Senators leads to Democratic Party domination.

But Republicans typically run those states and are as such responsible for the operation on the cities. A state, for example, could eliminate local government entirely, seemingly a nutty idea for states like California or Texas, but perhaps workable in Rhode Island.

Democrats seem to mismanage large cities in states run by both parties, so I think there's merit in the idea Democrats are messing things up. That said, states are mismanaging their cities.
I'm suggesting states should run city government differently.

I guess on the Senators I view it from CA where for a very long time we have 2 Senators and both are Democrats. It is like having termites, we need to call the exterminator.

Since I have lived in my city of over 220,000 people, it is run by our Mayor and the city council. The mayor is the chair of the city council.

Read his letter the night before. Holding an baseless impeachment meeting then walking out to the cameras and declaring the President is a criminal on national TV is working across the aisle how? And where is the proposal?

Any poster quoting Slate is free to do so. However bad mouthing Fox news makes no sense when one uses Slate.
There is no need to repeal the GOP tax cuts. I believe those cuts produced the velocity of money effect that has raised revenue to record levels. The Feds are raising staggering sums of revenue.

The velocity of the circulation of money refers to the frequency of the monetary transactions in an economy. One unit of money serves for several transactions over time. ... Whatever the aggregate used, the velocity of money can strengthen or weaken the effects of a change of the amount of money.Aug 16, 2018

We're facing a future where large numbers of workers will be displaced by AI automation. I think average folks have had a dramatic, understandable wakeup call with the prospect of self-driving vehicles. Older workers and those with weak or outdated skills will often be the the first shown the door.

What will become if these people and their families? I'm not sure a Grapes of Wrath shelter is the answer to the problem I described.

    Huh?

The problem with Trump's revenue slowdown is the continued growth of entitlement spending.

Worse still, 85% of the personal tax cuts went to people making $400,000 per year. Trump said he wouldn't cut taxes for rich people. Promise made, promise broken.

Why would Senators appointed by state government be more conservative than elected Senators, even in California?

City government is circumscribed by state government. When Napa wanted to limit population growth in the Napa Valley, the state told them they must take more people.

That is not what i am speaking of. We have minutes of city meetings where they evaluate city matters weekly. I am trying to recall a case where my city had the problem Napa has.

I like Napa. It is in a pretty setting and I once would fly there to eat dinner. There was a good steak house at the Napa Valley Airport. I am thinking the name is or was Jonesy's

Let me check now in one of my airport books.

Yes Jonesy's is highly recommended in my CA airport book.

I learned now it closed in 2010 but it is possible it opened back up later.

    Jonesy's Famous Steak House menu - Napa CA 94558 - (707) 255-2003

Restaurant menu, map for Jonesy's Famous Steak House located in 94558, Napa CA, 2044 Airport Rd.

I tend to favor local government, but when a city has clearly failed an argument can be made for state intervention.

What legal measures could a state government take to fix the cities?

Another approach would be to break up the central power of city governments in favor of many small very local councils with direct control over a very small areas - perhaps a city block.

Jefferson came up with such an approach late in his life.

They stayed in the shelter until they found jobs in the fields. There will never be a shortage jobs for unskilled labor in America, but as it stands now individual Americans and businesses cannot afford to hire menial labor to get those jobs done.
