The only winners I see here are the ones rebeling against Assad. the cease fire has begun, which means the killing should pretty much stop. And now these people are free to publicly protest (through non-violence) against Assad's government. I only suspect however that when this cease fire ends, the killing will continue once more. Its doubtful that any long lasting peace is actually going to take place. Neither side will concede to the other.

The struggle in Syria between Assad and the Alawites on one side and the coalition of those in revolt on the other side had drawn in foreign forces and interests. Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Obama's America supported the rebels while Russia, Iran and to a lesser extent China supported the status quo in Syria.

There is a deeper level of analysis, but for our purposes this is sufficient.

Israel neither gained nor lost. It will continue to face the devil it knows instead of the devil it didn't know.

Turkey's position is particularly interesting. Before the attempted revolution in Syria the Turks had good relations with the Iranians and the Alawite regime in Damascus. Then the Turks backed the Syrian rebels. Now Turkey faces a hostile Syria and Iran.

Well, I dont know how impressive it is for a government to be able to use its military to successfully slaughter its own people. Would seem you are impressed.

The Alawites of Syria are Shia heretics. Are the Alevis also heretics?

well I doubt you get to hear the UNSC today when the Syrian ambassador spoke because I doubt they show that on your TV's so as you are not aware of half of what goes on

BUT!!! apart from that and him talking of the submarines I have to say seriously that Clinton and that Susan Rice need to have some diplomacy courses. It's really shocking to watch them on TV and their arrogant attitude in front of the TV cameras. Really shocking. There is a certain level of behaviour that has to be maintained between diplomats however much you might hate them and what they say.
It's about manners and ettiquette and for sure the American team need to learn some basic manners if they are going to be seen on TV.

Susan Rice really is the worst in terms of manners in front of a forum like that. The arrogance and lack of basic manners is truly disgusting.

I think the Arab world has a lot to offer when it comes to basic manners. Maybe they should both come and have a little training here in this region. No wonder Americans are known the world around for arrogance and lack of basic manners. Those two really are amazing examples of it. If your TV is not showing it and I doubt they will because of the embarrassment then you will still be wondering what I am talking about . The internet is out there to educate!
