If we wish to be really technical, Obama is responsible for these vaccines. It was his administration that gave the research money for mRNA vaccines. Had that not been done we would still be waiting for a vaccine for COVID.

Basic common sense.

In the majority of the research into the mRNA vaccines began in earnest in 2013 with funding from DARPA with more that followed in 2015. The vaccines we have today for COVID are based off of that research. Remove that research and you have nothing to base the vaccines on. There is no way we could have replicated 7 years worth of research in a few months.

 

So far, no support for an Obama connection. Just your word.

 

One thing that cannot be taught is common sense. You will just have to struggle through life without it.

To be honest, I think it is stupid to give either president credit. I doubt very seriously that Obama personally knew about the money going to this research, just as WarpSpeed was thought of and funded long before Trump ever knew it existed.

 

I agree that Presidents don't know anything about such specialised fields and rely on experts, and therefore Trump personally gets zero credit for the vaccine and initial rollout and Biden personally gets zero credit for continued rollout and eventual ending of the pandemic, but I don't see how Warpspeed was funded "before Trump knew it existed." Such an operation was ALWAYS going to happen regardless of who was President, but didn't he have to sign something?

 

They get credit when it's due or they shouldn't get blame when things go south. Trump had policies for Covid research that are still in place and Biden has added nothing but his claim to their success.

I think you take it too far. It is one thing to not know about a single line in a budget, but the POTUS does lead the efforts to combat a pandemic. Their decisions have far reaching consequences. I do agree that Biden is not owed much credit as he has not really done anything other than make it a priority. I do place a good deal of blame on Trump for the first few months when time was critical and he dropped the ball

It was part of the initial COVID bill. Now, I guess you can assume Trump read it all and knew what was in it, but that is not an assumption I would make

you miss understand the point the an mRNA vaccine. The mRNA vaccine is designed not for any specific virus, but to be quickly adapted to what is needed.
