I can tell you. Those countries have never had a diverse population. The USA does. So our media needs to cater to it's diverse population.

Why does it scare certain people so much to see a Black news channel? Does it bring images of the so-called White genocide? Is there fear of Whites losing control of the country?

Anytime. Its easy to expose those who can't articulate themselves beyond their emotion. They are the first to call others racists or homophobes or xenophobic with no evidence.

 

My comments are usually evidence based. The anger/fear I see concerning this Black news station is troubling.

I didn't make up the stat but if it's incorrect that's fine. I don't think there's much debate that the majority of ad dollars (and shows) are centered around white audiences. I'm not complaining about that but this is why there are stations that produce programming for ethnic markets.

There are black stations, Hispanic, Asian media, Arab, etc. in the U. S. What would you put on WET isn't in ubiquitous supply on the majority of the other stations. These other stations exist because there is limited ethnic programming on other stations. Again, I"m not complaining about it. You're complaining. I'm just watching my shows along with millions of other Americans who watch ethnic media. You're making too much out of it. To each is own.

Due to the history of groups like the KKK and Nazis and the fact that there us no shortage of programming that caters to the majority of the population, people are more skeptical about the motive when someone says there should be a WET.

If you watch Lifetime, that provides programming tailored towards women, does that mean that you hate men? Of course not. So again, you're making too much out of it. Just tune in or don't. You're welcome to watch, too!

 

Ethnic stations have been around for a while now. The black owner of BET sold it to Viacom for a boatload of money years ago. So, no worries about needing tax dollars. Capitalism ... capitalism...

It's like you don't realize that ethnic media isn't a new thing. This would just be another channel. But I like your attitude. This particular station might not survive because of the J.C. Watts, conservative angle.

 

I grew up in Detroit. I have many relatives who are still there. We have Motown, iconic black churches pastored and attended by prominent parishioners like Aretha Franklin and the Winans. We have Cass Tech where Diana Ross and I went to high school (different generations) Henry Ford's auto industry that used to employ what seemed someone in everyone"s family in a city that's mostly black and more! All of these things and more are part of the cultural epicenter for blacks in my hometown ! Thanks for asking me to share!

I don't watch TV much these days. So, I don't really know what's out there regarding ethnic media. And, I have no idea what other black media might be out there. I've heard of BET and OWN, but I've not watched them.

 

Moriah, thank you so much, but I'm only barely trying to explain because some people will never understand and some don't really want to and time is limited. Aside from that, I shouldn't have to justify watching some stellar shows that I enjoy that only appear on ethnic TV stations to anyone. Thank you for chiming in!
