I believe that the Senate has already empowered the Chief Justice with the authority to make these type of tie-break rulings, but I am also not entirely sure.

Mind if I get a link to the publisher response?

Those facts absolutely establish a "likelihood" that it was for a personal gain.

Now, you can still have some doubt and that's fine. But the facts he raised are still evidence in support of the theory that it was done for a personal gain.

Without reviewing their legal brief or oral statements, I will give the benefit of the doubt and guess they actually said something akin to "no witness or document has been presented that supports this claim."

But I do wonder if they feel a need to address this reporting during oral arguments today or tomorrow.

If I were on Trump's team, I take the argument that it was both: Yes, my client did perceive a personal political advantage if Joe Biden were in fact caught doing something illicit in Ukraine. But my client also knew that he had an obligation as President of the United States to look into a former VP who made troubling statements and is now running for the US Presidency. This same former VP has also been seen intimidating news outlets in the past few months. For all of the President's discussion of fake news, not a single news agency had been silenced or intimidated into silence.

I argue before the Senate that even with my client's personal interest in seeing about whatever Biden was or wasn't up to in Ukraine, he still had legitimate grounds to do so, thus it's not an abuse of power.

Wouldn't it be interesting if John Bolton was secretly the Loch Ness Monster all along?
    Should have paid him $3.50.

...you really want to rely on Donald Trump's denial from twitter as your proof?

True, but why would Bolton or the publisher risk a leak that could negatively affect book sales? A "teaser" like this would "tear the rag off the bush." Why read the book, we learned what we wanted to learn.

That leaves one big juicy meatball - who in the White House did it?

Maybe one of the sources for the WB? We know he (or she) had WH sources from their original complaint.

This is big news... I missed it last night...

    Woe is me..

I don't see how Bolton isn't called to testify in a closed door deposition later this week.

I also eventually want the full story on exactly why (and how) Bolton left.. I'd find it very hard to believe it wasn't at least in part over this extortion...

I really do want the 'truth' to percolate to the surface - no matter what the truth might expose; I'm not so partisanly 'died in the wool' in this regard. I have serious misgivings about the assertions / timing of "Bolton's inferences" / NY Times though, lol... I'm sure mention & attention will be forthcoming at 1:00. :)

It’s a coincidence that he says this on the day his new book is available for pre order on Amazon...

Do you boys and girls fall for everything without question? Is your hatred of Trump that overwhelming? I couldn’t imagine living such a life.

Found this quote from the Fox News report on the subject

"The Times further claimed Bolton had shared a manuscript of his forthcoming book with "close associates" -- prompting Bolton's team to deny the claim, and assert that the National Security Council's [NSC's] review process of pending manuscripts is "corrupted" and prone to leaks."

If you think he might be lying, and he could very well be lying, then join me in demanding that he testify under oath.

Investigations is plural, what were the other subjects? Which one was primary?

There is nothing "boring and pointless" about holding any president to account who invites (or pressures) a foreign power to influence the outcome of US elections - or complaining that, unfortunately, they will not in fact be held to account.

But we only have the word of his political opposition that is what happened. The Russia myth was DNC all the way. The sooner the Senate ends this charade and gets back to doing their jobs the better.

If hating Trump is wrong, I don't wanna be right...

I also see the 2020 Grammy Song of the Year was written with Trump in mind...

    He's a cultural icon

Bolton wants to sell books and get in the limelight. He is a bitter "scorned old woman".

That’s the point. The evidence doesn’t point to Trump pressuring Ukraine. It’s just a democrat wet dream he did. The evidence suggest Trump was making sure our tax dollars were not being handed out to corrupt nations.

I find it odd that so many here want to impeach Trump for something there is no evidence of, yet ignore the evidence of the conflict of interest during the Obama administration with Hunter Biden and other prominent figures receiving real money from a corrupt Ukraine company for doing nothing. Wreaks of partisanship.

It's why the Senate is going to hurt their little feelings again. All the screaming in the world will not stop and end this fun game.
