There is nothing to figure out because there is zero evidence proving that Iran was involved in an attack on the US embassy or that Iran posed an imminent threat to US personnel or property in the region. The congress needs to investigate what basis, if any, there was for Trump to launch this attack. And if it's discovered that Trump lied, which is entirely likely, he should be impeached again.

And on the exceedingly rare occasion the government tells the truth, it's in service of some other, bigger lie.

At this point, there is never a reason to believe anything the government says without ample proof to back it up.
