    You are correct.

In particular there has been a studied event where those who are deep in a state of worship specific to Christian Rock where people put their arms in the air and swear they can feel the Holy Spirit entering them.

Well that is because when a person raises their arms u like that for long periods of time it changes blood flow to the brain and makes a person light headed.

Head Bangers have known about this and have been doing it for decades.

As far as when a person who really believes they are communicating with a GOD.....again....Hormones and Endorphins are released and this stimulates the pleasure centers of the brain.

This is also why there is a term and band known as GODSMACK!

    Same basic thing.

Well, these reactions have occurred in the absence of head-banging, or arms being held up in the air for long periods of time.

So, basically, the chemical reactions that occur in the brain when one experiences God does not prove God, but the chemical reactions that occur when a person experiences Love proves the existence of Love. Please explain.

They both PROVE LOVE....either of a person or a cat or dog or a piece of art or a song and prove that some Highly Religious People LOVE GOD....as they understand or believe such a GOD to be...and it doesn't matter if such a GOD exists or not....the Biochemistry generates the LOVE reguardless.

If I hallucinate a purple three headed monkey, does that prove such a monkey exists, on the grounds that my biochemical reaction to it can be observed? Of course not. And just to preempt your rebuttal, there is a difference between an emotional state and an intellectual belief. If I feel love, I feel love. If I believe in God, I don't necessarily have a religious experience.

You know...the whole reason WHY I created this Topic and I think I might have created this exact same topic a few times now....was not because I have any interest in disproving whether a GOD exists.....I created this Topic because I kept getting bombarded by certain members who kept posting that they had definitive PROOF a GOD existed and in their case it was either the Christian, Jewish or Muslim GOD.

If members notice...not a single one of these members who stated they had PROOF came forward to post it.

    Why?

    Because no such proof exists.

That is why Religions use the word...FAITH.

I have never been big on Faith....I am more of a results oriented proof positive person.

Close, but I prefer this... While you discipline your children do you expect they feel your love? Probably not. Yet, I assume you don't stop loving them during the moments you are doling out discipline.

Your disagreement with the punishment delivered is no different than your child's disagreement for the punishment you deliver. No difference.

Given your method of response in this forum you appear to already be in the place you detest. Eternity includes now.

So you are a math guy, better science to those that can begin with faith.

I've yet to read many claims to having proof of God, I have my own proof but nothing you would accept. Evidence is generally the term I run across. Perhaps your struggle is with the difference between the two. Congratulations on being above the Alpha, however, it doesn't say much for humanity if you are the best we have to offer. It is inspirational though.

love is an emotion, a feeling. It has no discrete existence outside the human mind/body. Are you saying your god us merely an emotion?

You have no idea of what you are talking about.

    TaNaKh is an acronym for
Torah (Teaching), Nevi’im (Prophets), and Ketuvim (Writings)

The Tanakh is the entire collection of the canonized Hebrew Bible.

I see your failure to think through the implications of belief in an asshat of a god caught you out ... again :)

Trying to deflect attention away from your murderous god's idea of reasonable punishment by talking of how it's received is to be expected, but pointless. There is no getting away from it, around it, justifying it, or excusing it. That's your self-imposed nightmare - not ours.

by "your method of response" I take it you mean confronting and/or irreverent :p

I am a scientist and an atheist. Nevertheless I think that the very low error probabilities in science leave enough place for anyone believing in many things, including God. In addition sciences extract rules from repeating occurrences, generating a theory or "hypothesis" how those factors could be connected and then trying to prove the hypothesis experimentally. Single occuring events cannot be explained, investigated or proven by any science, because there is no rule to be extracted. If any of those events described in the bible would re occur, then scientists could try to explain how, why and when. Until then everything is "belief", no matter if a scientist believes it or a priest.

mankind has a mind that seeks and desires answers to questions.

There was a time when man knew very little about his surroundings.

we had to interpret the world we saw from a very short base of facts.

Religion and Gods helped explain the many many things that man had no control over and couldn't explain.

the need for that invented religion is coming to a close.

fewer and fewer people will need religion.

    Some ALWAYS WILL.

those of us who don't should NOT punished by those who still need religion for whatever reasons.

believe what you want to believe but stop organizing religion.

When you organize it as a structure sociopaths can use that structure to social climb.

sociopaths are about 4 in 100 people on this planet.

    3 men and 1 woman.

Organized religion is perfect for an intelligent and emotionless person to use as a way to grab power.

the religions tells him or her exactly what they need to say to people to manipulate their followers.

    think pedophile priests.

I have no nightmare, that is your assumption of my justification. You seem to be stuck on fear, that is quite obviously your dilemma, not mine. I have not feared death, nor suffering, not even in my Atheistic years. I am simply grateful for the life I have lived, no need to muddy it up with fear.

I deflect no attention, any deflection of such claims in this forum would futile anyway.

By your interpretation of what I meant by "your method of response" I assume you are unaware of your "asshat" tendencies. That seems doubtful, but I'll play along.

I grew up in an Atheist/Agnostic family. Obviously I had many questions. I knew about Jesus, but not much more than that. In order to help chose my path I began to pray for a very specific sign from Jesus. This was my eighth grade year of school. After a couple of weeks of prayer, it was answered... to the letter. I felt I had two choices, I was either clairvoyant or Jesus answered. I chose to accept the latter, and 30 years later I am overwhelmed with gratitude. I've seen my lost relatives struggle with the same issues you bring here, and that's the hardest part for me, about being a Christian... watching my relatives search for answers that are right in front of them. The evidence is there for you to find.

You are obviously embattled with the same questions I had, otherwise you would not spend a moment in this discussion. I'm certain there is a mental facility near you that would accept your offer to volunteer time helping the truly delusional. But we both know it's not about you helping me understand my delusions. I wont be in this forum long, as each question tends to turn into the same disagreement in the end. Your thoughts are not nearly as unique as you wish them to be.

What type of evidence are you looking for? Scientific? Philosophical?

Is the above supposed to be evidence that Love exists? All you did was give me a very simplistic definition of what Love is.

So what you are basically arguing is that loving and praying result in the same activation and workings of certain parts of the brain. Source please.

Your assumption is that love and praying are one and the same, which is not the case at all.

Well, then why does the biochemical reaction that occurs when one is "loving" prove the existence of Love?

This is assuming that belief in God does not require reason and rationality. Hence, your example of the purple three headed monkey is dismissed, as the you are not in a rational state when you hallucinate such a being.

Sure, but just because one is in love with his lover, and does not "feel" love all the time when he is with her, it does not mean that he is not in love with her int he absence of those feelings.

You've convinced me. Love doesn't exist, and neither does God. Your logic is very compelling.*

*This is what happens when you make an argument for the sake of arguing, rather than the sake of actually proving a point.

The whole point however was to prove that just because there is no concrete and tangible evidence that Love exists, does not mean that it is nonexistent. The same is true for God.
