Well now, this is interesting! At first I didn't believe it but it appears to be true.

11 year olds? Seriously?!?! Can an 11 yo sign a contract? This is crazy. Marriage is a legal agreement. There is no way these children can give consent at their age. I had no idea children so young could get married. How can this be legal. Parents who push this should be prosecuted and put in jail.

And much of this comes from, are you ready, "christianity". Righties denounce the practices of other countries while allowing children to be kept in bondage in their own back yard; often in the name of who - why God, of course.

So I guess this makes having sex with a child, legal.

And to think of all the fuss over who uses what bathroom with this going on.

Hmmm, plenty of outrage against Muslims for their practices but none when it is in your own backyard.

Hmmmmm. Should I assume that righties have no objection to christian child marriages? Note that the 10 yos getting married are in red states.

I don't think Sherry Johnson or her mother are conservatives, even though they live in Florida.

This is done in the name of Jesus.

So while righties decry Islam and what goes on in other countries, they ignore this; all in the name of christianity.

You know what this is? Child abuse - nothing more and nothing less.

The parents who consent to it should be locked up. The adults who participate in it should be locked up. This is disgusting and horrific.

California has a good amount of this going on. Maybe those Hispanic Catholics who make up the majority? You should call them out sometime.

Chris Christie claimed it would conflict with religious customs

Religious customs? What religion believes in sacrificing a 10 year old girl to an adult man?

Aisha was 6 when she married Muhammad (in his 50's). He was good enough to wait until she was 9 to deflower her, though. That's God's final and most perfect prophet according to 1.6 billion people around the world. And you won't catch HereWeGoAgain making too many negative comments about him. I wonder why?

I had no idea a child so young could be married. I was blown away. This is like something right out of the old testament!

Funny thing is, we are only two generations removed from the time when it was common for 15 yos to get married. I think my grandmother was married at 16.

And my other grandmother was 20 years younger than my grandfather!

That was also the time when the average life expectancy was about 40, women constantly died in childbirth, and people went to work immediately after finishing 8th grade.

Yep, my grandfather only attended to the 8th grade.

By chance I happen to remember precisely that the average lifespan in 1850, was about 40 years. But in fact your chances of a long life were pretty good if you made it to twenty. It wasn't so much that we died younger, rather, we didn't survive childbirth and childhood nearly as often. And life was more dangerous all the way around.

One of the more profound changes in modern medicine was the realization that you need to wash your hands! That and antibiotics made a huge difference.

That's also why people back then had a ton of children. The chances of most of them living to adult hood was tiny.

On my dad's side, 9 out of 12 children survived childhood.

Each of my parents had a sibling who died young. All 4 of my grandparents had multiple siblings die in childhood (mostly TB), infancy or young adulthood.

Okay then, you approve of people having sex with children... as long as they're christians. Got it.

Some folks should really examine marriage consent laws in their state.

I think many would be fuming.

The snake handlers like the young stuff.apparently. That's 13333 a year. I bet a goodly percentage of that number aren't Christian either. I wonder how many of those are Nambla related.

Seems to me it should just be the age of consent in that state.
