China is lying. I don't mind their industrializing at all. What I mind are the gullible climate claims made on their behalf.

Stated with no evidence. Many of China's engineering feats are remarkable. You don't believe the numbers? When they post a photo of the largest dam in the world, do you believe that? When they post a photo of the highest wind turbine in the world, do you believe that. Then they post a photo of the largest offshore wind farm in the world (topic of this thread), do you believe that?

And they can argue quite effectively that the US is the largest per capita user of most of the world's resources. They can ask the question - Why doesn't the US connect their major cities with high speed rail?

Yeah, I guess somebody would have to CARE for this to make sense. And that's the bottom line. If you don't CARE that the US has to use twice the resources to accomplish everyday life, then there's no incentive to fix it. This is not only a pollution and greenhouse gas issue, but it's also an economic issue. If we are spending double the money on overhead for our manufacturing processes, transportation systems, and energy production, we are going to fall short in global markets. And as Trump and other Republicans say "Drill, baby, drill", they are relegating us to be uncompetitive around the world.

We use resources because ours is a capital-intensive economy, with unmatched productivity per worker. We also use resources to achieve and sustain a high quality of life. As for pollution, the air and water are cleaner now than they have been for centuries. Fear of greenhouse gases is a relic of 19th century physics, to be superseded by 21st century science.

The US is the most wasteful society in the world. We need to get our act together. It's not sustainable in any way.

It's as sustainable as we want it to be. And there's no arbitrary standard to meet. Yours is a fundamentally religious (essentially Puritan) position.

Gee a lawsuit funded by the Heartland Institute (Koch Brothers) against renewables. YAWN! But offshore drilling (remember Exxon Valdez, remember the huge Arctic disaster) - that's OK.

Headline: Asthma not caused by Renewables.

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7503605/

Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease characterized by variable airflow obstruction, bronchial hyperresponsiveness, and airway inflammation. Evidence suggests that air pollution has a negative impact on asthma outcomes in both adult and pediatric populations.

The goal that the Chinese Communist Party is working toward is global domination. And the global warming alarmists in the western democracies are willing participants in their own demise.

China is industrializing using fossil fuels - namely coal. They are producing wind and solar panels that they sell to the western democracies which weakens the economies of the western democracies and strengthens the economy of Red China.

Have you not yet realized that it is not installed capacity that is important - it is utilization.

We've definitely improved since the Clean Air act of the 1970s, but there are still a lot of issues.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/19/climate/air-pollution-pm25.html

In IQAir’s rankings, the United States is doing much better than most other countries. But studies that dig deeper show air quality is still an issue, said Gaige Kerr, a research scientist at George Washington University and the lead author of the disparities paper published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives. “There’s still a lot of work to do,” he said

Dr. Kerr’s research showed that mortality rates were highest on the Gulf Coast and in the Ohio River Valley, in areas dominated by petrochemical and manufacturing industries. He also noted that researchers have seen a slight uptick in rates of PM2.5-related deaths starting around 2016, particularly in the Western states, likely because of increasing wildfires.

Typically misleading since wildfires in the western states is a natural phenomenon and with a DECLINE in wildfires worldwide over the last 23 years not a concern according to NASA satellite data.

Fossil fuels play an important role in our economy. As we transition away from fossil fuels, due to the climate crisis, many will still need them and use them. We use twice as many BTUs per capita than Europeans, Chinese, and many other cultures. That's not only unsustainable from a climate standpoint, it's unstainable economically.

Sure, if you don't like the data, just say it's "skewed".
