Chinese carrier sails through Taiwan Strait hours before Biden-Xi call

TAIPEI, March 18 (Reuters) - A Chinese aircraft carrier sailed through the sensitive Taiwan Strait on Friday, Taiwan's Defence Ministry said, just hours before the Chinese and U.S. presidents were due to talk.

China claims democratically ruled Taiwan as its own territory, and has over the past two years stepped up its military activity near the island to assert its sovereignty claims, alarming Taipei and Washington.

If anyone doesn't think what the next move on the world stage is, then you're living under a rock..

I'm actually amused that Xi will even take Biden's call and there is little to nothing that Biden could threaten that could change Xi's mind on the his path moving forward!

Any guess when China moves on Taiwan?

 

I guess China will move on Taiwan when it wants to sacrifice tens of thousands of troops, destroy its export market and become an international pariah.

 

I don't see Xi worried about sacrificing of troops. Moa killed millions of his own people to embrace communism.

I also think Xi has already laid a bunch of ground work that forces the world economies to China. Especially in the green energy fields. Putin is merely a cog in Xi master plan.

Xi is already moving to destabilize the petro dollar and with our current energy and inflation crisis, could send western economies into the tank. The Yuan could become the reserve currency before we all even know it.

 

The Taiwan Strait is 100 miles wide at its narrowest. Chinese ships sail through that strait daily for the last 50 years

 

I saw “Biden-Xi” in the title and chuckled. Probably very appropriate.

Except for the fact the Carrier hasn't went through the straight since December 2020, just days after US warships traveled through the strait. If you think there is no provocation by this move, the day Biden is to speak with Xi, then not sure what to tell you. Taiwan feels vastly different than you. Especially after everything this administration has done... or more accurately, not done for their partners.

Which is something they do NOT want because it hurts their exports, which are now more expensive. China goes through lot of trouble to manipulate their currency to keep it LOW, not high.

Why do people like you always think everyone's #1 priority is to hurt someone else, even when it hurts yourself more? Projection?

My opinion is that Biden is personally compromised by China, and so I don’t hold any expectation that he is going to look after America’s interests when it comes to dealing with China.

But we knew that in 2020, and so we deserve it.

That and of course the fact that Biden just threatened Xi with economic retaliation if China helped Russia.

When you say International who do you mean???? Only the West? What about the middle east, Africa, Asia, Russia, South America?

China is in control of the world's production of goods. We depend on them much more than they depend on us. Many of our "leaders" have also been compromised by China. They have built a middle class and all levels of industry and could easily survive without the U.S. They have all the natural resources they'd ever need from Africa alone. They have been playing the West for decades. They are holding all the cards.

 

Russia and China have been positioning for this for the last decade. Both Russia and China have built vast cash reserves (China with 3.22 trillion) and brought in huge amounts of gold. The two nations have been ditching the dollar and reduced dependency of the dollar by a staggering 50% in 2020 alone. Yes, it makes perfect sense to me as the goal is for nations to become reliant on the Yuan like the world did with the Dollar. Their goal is to be the sole economic superpower.

Why would Putin do exactly what you are saying unless there was a strategy? I assure you there is a strategy and Xi is well aware of all the moves on the board!

Putin has been hoarding gold in order to survive the very situation he finds himself in now (sanctions), but he made a terrible miscalculation because its ending in a disaster. China has increased gold reserves littlebit, but even today they don't have much more than they did in 2016.

Putin is a madman on his way to the gallows, while China is willing to co-exist and make the most of it. The West is the very reason they are doing as well as they are, so why would they do away with it.....for what? Who's gonna buy their 'stuff' after they are sanctioned by their clients?

 

The Western arrogance is incredible. This Russia situation highlights it perfectly. Both the left and the right are delusional regarding America's ability to continue it's geopolitical dominance around the globe. There is blood in the water and EVERYBODY ELSE knows it but us...
