Wrong. Politicians select those judges just for their opinions. Haven't you ever watched confirmation hearings? The lobbying groups lobby the politicians. I'm surprised you don't know that. Or maybe I'm not.
I disagree, it is marriage and that is what it should be called, the religious marriage holds no legal weight, only legal marriage civil unions were tried, but people were refused the right to see their partner on their death bed as they claimed only family allowed, marriage makes you family, legally, that is it's purpose you could religiously marry anyone you want, even as many people as you want... but they would not have any legal weight as they are not legal marriage .
My point of disagreement is this part: "In keeping with the understandable wishes of religious persons, I don't believe that they should refer to it as a marriage" There is nothing particularly "civil" about allowing religious persons to dictate the rights of other people, including to a word that has legal meaning beyond any assigned by various religions to it. I'll stay out of their church, and they should stay out of my marriage.
How true, anecdotal account here - My brother in law married his now wife in a Pagan wedding (handfasting), for all purposes he was a married man EXCEPT in the eyes of the law, to be deemed a married person under law they had to get a marriage licence
so... you are saying that SCOTUS will force churches to marry gay couples against their theological beliefs and in total violation of the separation of church and state, all because gays will lobby congress (on the verge of having both houses being republican) to nominate future SCOTUS judges who will be willing to violate that separation. Have I got that right? - - - Updated - - - very ironic indeed.
the OP says nothing about public displays of affection. You are willing to be more civil to heterosexual people twerking and grinding in public than you are gays doing the same thing? Is that correct?
What the hell does this contribute to anything? Just don't say anything at all until you actually plan to contribute to the conversation by actually participating instead of screaming nonsense.
No , that is NOT correct . Get a room period end of story , stop trying to find fault with those who happen to disagree with your liberal ways . Why do you find the need to award and celebrate the fact someone is GAY ? Who cares !
The problem with guilt ridden liberals is they project all their insecurities on everyone else. And psychoanalyze every word BUT fail to see their own bigotry, how am I doing? Hit home? Sound familiar? .......................duck call peddling redneck…..your racist grandpa…..varieties of bigot though, other than babbling nonsense……..bad as a racist….. blah, blah ,blah !!!!!!!!!!!!
You are bigoted towards gay people. Just be a grown up guy and admit your bigotry. I don't celebrate anyone's gayness. If I were gay, however, I would certainly celebrate my own. The fact that you cannot allow others that simple right - to celebrate and rejoice in who THEY are - speaks volumes about how shallow and petty YOU really are, imo.
Great , I'm shallow , so what ? Everyone doesn't have to agree with YOUR views . And you are allowed to call me whatever makes you most comfortable with YOUR uncomfortable life style . So go celebrate hopefully at home !
As I said. I am not gay. If I WERE (that's the subjunctive tense) I WOULD celebrate my gayness. As it is, I celebrate my straightness, my marriage, my children, my lovely house, my golf game, the incredible diversity in my liquor cabinet, the temperature in my swimming pool, the size of my portfolio.... almost every aspect of my life. I am not uncomfortable with anything... well, hardly anything. You have expressed your bigotry, yet you can't quite bring yourself to admit it. Let me admit some of my own: I deeply dislike BIGOTS. I find little redeeming in bigoted individuals whatsoever. In a perfect world, they'd all be herded into rockets and blasted into space and off to some other planet. See? Aren't you lucky I'M not in charge?
LOL, your true attitude comes out at last. First you say this: and when I give you a list of examples, you retreat from the entire subject and resort to name calling. What happened to your GUARANTEE? But I understand what has happened, when faced with facts that contradict your long held and personal belief you were placed in a quandary. A lot of people just can't admit the truth when it means changing a fundamental ideology, we will see if you are up to the task.
Nope. Not changing my views. I'm very comfortable and sure of what I believe. I want equality and social justice for all. Too many conservatives are selfish pricks who want what they want and to hell with everyone else. They want to keep others down for no reason other than that they have some moral objection to them. They are beholding to the plutocrats and don't even know that are acting against their own self interests since most are not wealthy. It's a no brainer
That wasn't an insult. That was a genuine criticism that I expect you to think about. What makes you different from a racist, other than the people you choose to hate? And a few famous people getting nasty letters isn't violent and vicious. Do you want to know what's violent and vicious? A man being assaulted by his own family for coming out of the closet. I've never heard of any straight people being tormented based on an uncontrollable trait. Some get criticized for their prejudice, but you're wearing the tinfoil hard enough to interpret that as violent and vicious. You can choose not to be a homophobe whenever you want to. I'll be bisexual until I die, whether I want to or not.
I don't like people that think less of me for my sexual orientation. what a crime Seriously, please explain why this is somehow wrong. Explain why any if those are less than statements of fact.
If you feel like you have to solve the problems of the world and only YOU know what they are and how to correct them , charge ahead ! But don't try to tell everyone else how to act and what they should do . Dam liberals !
