    Coast Guard officer allegedly wanted to conduct a mass killing, had political and media hit list

    (CNN)A Coast Guard lieutenant arrested last Friday on gun and drug charges allegedly wanted to conduct a mass killing.

    Christopher Paul Hasson, 49, of Silver Spring, Maryland, is alleged to be a white supremacist who had a hit list that included prominent Democratic politicians as well as several journalists from CNN and MSNBC. Hasson's case was first circulated by counterterrorism expert Seamus Hughes and the George Washington Program on Extremism.

    Hasson's hit list includes Democratic politicians -- Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, of New York, Sens. Chuck Schumer, of New York, Cory Booker, of New Jersey, Richard Blumenthal, of Connecticut and Kamala Harris, of California and former Rep. Beto O'Rourke, of Texas -- as well as CNN journalists Don Lemon, Chris Cuomo and Van Jones and MSNBC's Chris Hayes, Ari Melber and Joe Scarborough.

    Court documents say Hasson espoused extremist and white supremacist views and allege that he relied on the manifesto of Anders Breivik, a Norwegian who was convicted in 2011 of two terror attacks that killed 77 people.

    And that is a frightening prospect. If anyone would know how to carry something like this out, it would be someone with that kind of training and experience.

    Morning Joe? He's certainly changed his tune (with good reason), but I understand he was pro-Trump during the election and he's a former R congressman. I like most of that morning show, so I'm glad I wasn't watching it prior to the election.

    How is it possible he doesn't have Nancy on his list?? I gotta figure she leads most RW whackadoodle lists?

    Morning Joe S. is right wing economically but socially far more liberal than the standard GOP person.

    He was ambivalent in the beginning in 2016 but by the general election, he was anti-Trump, and has grown only more viciously so. Good on him.

    Nice work by the authorities in getting this guy before he carried out any of his plans. It can be a dangerous world with extremists on both sides of the spectrum, those on the far, far right are particularly scary. Trump's dangerous and irresponsible rhetoric certainly doesn't diffuse anything, indeed, it encourages the whack jobs. As of 9:41 EST not a peep or tweet from Trump about this, but he has tweeted nonsense about his 'wall'. If this alleged perpetrator had been an ISIS (Muslim) sympathizer there would have been a Trump tweet storm by now......

    LT in the Coast Guard is equivalent in rank to an Army Captain (0-3). Also, he had only been in the Coast Guard since 2016, following time he had spent in the Marines and the Army National Guard.
