DACA compromise I'd be OK with.

Agree on all counts. I’d like to add we then need to make it easier to legally migrate to the U.S. for high-quality individuals who possess skills that are in demand.

And for a DACA child to receive this amnesty, the parent must turn his/herself in and plead guilty to violating said act - thus, no need for a trial.

The same as jailing any other criminal.

Irrelevant. We are either a nation of laws or we are not. If you don’t think the penalties are stiff enough, I’m more than happy to discuss enhancing them. Bear in mind “not getting caught” will be a lot more difficult going forward as Mr. Trump has - for the first time in 30 years - untied the hands of the aurhoroties and the illegals are very very nervous right now, especially here in California where ICE has promised a full-court press. From all reports it appears they are delivering on that promise.

Yes, I like that a lot. No need to clog the courts for people we KNOW are guilty.

Please. Incarcerating for at least three years and fines up to $250,000 for the parents of all Dreamers is repugnant to decent Americans.

Why don't you just entertain yourself with such fantasies and let others deal with reality.

I should add - it ends here. No DACA for NEW illegals. You bring your kids here at great peril to your (and their) personal freedom.

I ask again - what extremist agenda? Do you have a problem with the law? If so, you can work to change it. But the body of law currently in force regarding immigration has been dveloped over decades by both political parties. That we have allowed our leaders to ignore the very laws they passed does not constitute extremism when we finally say it’s time to start actually following them. Or don’t ask me to obey the speed limit or pay taxes. Just like Chick Schumer doesn’t like our immigration laws... I don’t like those laws so why should I follow them?

Your facile argument and histrionic talking points are easily defeated.

Have it your way. The 87% of Americans who support the DACA programme are hellbent on locking up for years every parent of every "dreamer" who has completed high school or military service and has not been convicted of a serious crime.

It doesn’t matter what they think. You are again proving my point that the rule of law is dead - and artlessly dodging my questions I should add.

That's partly true, but you're being too generous. Mere presence of an illegal after a deportation is indeed a crime under Title 8 USC §1326, but ...

What is chronically overlooked in these discussions, by both the right and the left, is that an alien is not entitled to even a first bite at the apple.

    (a) Improper time or place; avoidance of examination or inspection; misrepresentation and concealment of facts:

Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers, or (3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.
    (b) Improper time or place; civil penaltiesAny alien who is apprehended while entering (or attempting to enter) the United States at a time or place other than as designated by immigration officers shall be subject to a civil penalty of—
    (1) at least $50 and not more than $250 for each such entry (or attempted entry); or
    (2) twice the amount specified in paragraph (1) in the case of an alien who has been previously subject to a civil penalty under this subsection.
Civil penalties under this subsection are in addition to, and not in lieu of, any criminal or other civil penalties that may be imposed.

For the life of me, I cannot understand where illegal aliens -- or their apologists -- get off claiming that their "only crime" was looking for a job. Their crime was entering without inspection (sneaking across the border at night.) I feel sorry for many of them, but won't delude myself by pretending that § 1325 isn't on the books.

The lib media just reported that schumer is playing hardball on DACA

He is allegedly not going to make any concessions including funding for the wall

To me that assures another showdown when DACA expired in March

Or less likely another gov shutdown in febuary

How did DACA become the nation's top priority?

Everything we are going to get has to be front loaded into the deal beforecthe DACAs get anything

The future is now not tomorrow

So lib promises are worth nothing

How about this as a way forward:

Trump signs a temporary but renewable executive order or a directive to ICE stating that, until further notice an absent an act of Congress, no Dreamer is to be placed in deportation proceedings absent conviction for a crime?

It would undercut the D's ridiculous argument that, without immediate amnesty, all Dreamers are at immediate risk of deportation. It would also leave the Congress free, as it always was, to enact separate legislation to give them a path to legal residency.

Hey, maybe I should be the President! "A chicken n every pot, and a car in every garage!"

(That "chicken in every pot" line, by the way, is attributed to President Hoover's campaign, but it was nicked from Henri IV of France.)

My way would be to let DACA expire as scheduled

That does not mean anything would happen to the “dreamers” woukd be deported immediately

But they would no longer be protected from deportation and instead just be normal illegal aliens again

One thing we would do well to consider is that at the behest of trump, ICE recently deported Jorge Garcia, a 39-year-old man who was brought here at age 10 and who is married to an American and has 2 teenage children here. Trump didn't make any exception, but Trump may be just a bit hypocritical on this since Melania is in a similar situation.
