No actually it wasn't. Lemmon said it's only fake news if it's intentional, done with malice. Wrong, any report or story that fails on factual merit is by definition fake. It wasn't real from inception no matter the intent or innocence in the motives of the reporter.

In fairness, they gave Trump tons of positive coverage during the Primaries. They chose him as "the candidate" that they thought their anointed one (Hillary Clinton) could beat. But, once the General Election was on us, they roasted him, attacked him, and did their best to shove Hillary Clinton down the nation's collective throat.

Certainly Not News strikes again. The number of incidences of them cutting off feeds or interviews when they don't like the message only proves the left is not for free speech or tolerance if the view being expressed is the opposite of their own.

Look this isn't rocket science. With the advent of 24/7 "news", filling air time has become job #1, verifying sources comes in a distant 3rd or 4th after "scooping" the competition during each hours "news" cycle.

Print media has the same issue. Papers aren't printed then placed on the website, they, articles, populate the website first.

In both time is of the essence, truth can be edited in later.

I agree with lemon's definition. 'Fake' just like 'fraudulent' or 'deceptive', or 'lie' implies a specific intent inherent its production rather than sloppy or erroneous content or negligent investigative behavior even an indifferent intent .

On to the interview. A basic rule of thumb is if the interviewer takes more time to formulate and ask his question than he is willing to provide to a guest to answer it, there is something wrong with the interview, namely its becoming more about him than his guests. This discussion was supposed to be about the first family and security costs, and he allowed it to be derailed as much by his own behavior as any guest. There are better ways of handling this situation than derailing your own segment to pontificate about a tangent.

It is entirely possible to deliver nothing but facts, never tell an untruth, and still be untruthful.

As an example: A small town bans pitt bulls. Headline says "Town bans dogs". Entirely truthful, but dishonest.

That is what "fake news" is. It is the advancing of an agenda through supporting one side but not the other. Tell all the positive aspects of one side, and all the negative aspects of the other, and you have been factually truthful, but deceptively dishonest. Fake news.

The free press is supposed to play an important role in our republic as whistle-blowers, fact checkers, etc,. They do an excellent job of that... but only against republicans.
