Too bad the guy who created it all is such a prick that he has steadfastly refused to tell us over thousands and thousands of years and counting. What a prick!

By approving of Adam/Eve, Jesus is hanging his hat, as best we can tell, on the 6000 year figure. I think my pet rat would even be smarter than that.

Who did? And if you don't know WHO, then you have to admit that it's DELUSIONAL to be a Jew, no?

Will they say that their religion is wrong then? In which case they'd want to leave it, of course. Do they?

I hereby FORGIVE the rest of humanity for "Adam/Eve's sin" (i.e. I forgive the rest of humanity for something that is obviously not their fault at all)...too bad god/Jesus is not as forgiving as I am. Instead, because the zombie can't find it in his heart to forgive, he's set up a "hell" for even good, decent, hard-working people who simply pick the wrong super-hero out of the thousands on offer.

The age of the EARTH is more certain. Jesus couldn't even tell us THAT (despite many Biblical verses saying that he IS "god".) Expect more from an all-knowing invisible person who can magically "hear and answer your silent prayers" to this very day.

There are lots of scientists who were/are Christians. That's not even slightly the issue. Nobody should care that the percentage of "believers" in the general population is far higher than the percentage among scientists, for example. Belief in god just doesn't enter into it, because there is no way to determine through scientific method whether god did or did not do something. Science and religion are separate in that way.

Remember the gravity thing. One could guess that god does gravity - moving all objects in the universe in a way that conforms to what we witness. Clearly, the god of Christianity is described to be powerful enough to do that. But, that can not be a scientific theory, because there is no way to test that idea.

This isn't a matter of not liking god. It's a matter of a limitation that mankind has. Mankind can not test god. And, that includes testing god through scientific method.

This limitation of science doesn't just apply to god, btw. This is also why "string theory" is not part of experimental science - it can not be tested. String theory is part of "theoretical physics" where people build on our base understanding using math and without limiting themselves to what could possibly be determined to be correct through testing and observation. It proves to be valuable by giving clues as to where scientific method may look in order to extend our understanding.

Well we can certainly show how the Bible/Qur'an are so WRONG that belief in those two most popular gods tumbles and that someday those two gods will have about as much credibility as, say, ZEUS does today. Eventually that will happen.

Tesla was brilliant enough to realize that there are forces that go way beyond our limited knowledge. He said our thoughts are externally influenced, which comes down to the simplistic 'the devil told me to do it', or the more conceptual 'Enlightment', and God's Grace. He said that the earth has no edges and is not an object, it is a realm... as is Heaven, etc. We can use the term dimension instead of realm, but I prefer the term 'existence', and that there are different existences, and that this is not the only one.

God's concern is that we enter a better existence than this when we die, and the only way we can enter that realm is through our state of mind. ..and that change can only come when one accepts God. Everything else is inconsequential, since the next existence will be eternal.

Stop equating Christianity with 'nationalism' which denotes 'pride', and therefore is the antithesis of Christianity since humility is a perquisite in Christianity. There can be no such thing as a Christian holocaust, because anyone knowingly harming another, could not be a Christian. When someone is baptized, it is giving that person the potential to become one. It does not mean they are.

As for the OT, everything in it is an example of what will happen to us when we turn away from God's creative 'force' that sustains our existence. The reason that the OT says God commanded this and that, was because authority and punishment was the only thing that they were able to understand before the advent of Jesus.

To blame God for something that occurs, is the same as getting burned and blaming the person who told you not to go near the fire. A little ridiculous isn't it?

Yes being humans scientists hold on to beliefs, especially the assumptions, and someone one said science moves along at the pace of tombstones, illustrating scientists are still human beings, who get set in their ways. Seems to mostly be the younger scientists who move science along, not being burdened so badly as the old guys.

The VAST majority of the racist alt-right are CHRISTIANS!
That tells us a lot about the #1 role model in that belief system - Jesus.

Nonsense! Christians that approve of god's "flood" in the bible are approving of what is virtually a genocide. Approval of genocide is immoral and uncaring - that would make those particular Christians immoral and uncaring. Jesus tacitly approves of said genocide, and said genocide likely killed more than even Hitler's genocide - by that important metric Jesus is worse than Hitler. Or did Jesus leave his dad/god for committing genocide? I left his dad/god, but Jesus doesn't have enough moral courage to do that as well. If someone commits genocide you LEAVE them.

Well, in the super long time frame that could certainly happen. I don't get along with the supernatural in any real way, but I doubt that will happen within the next hundred years. They are just too ingrained as part of humanity.

The thing is that religion does have methods of change, though slow and not very organized. So, the key areas that science disputes do not seem to me to be killing issues for the 3 religions based on the Bible. In fact, my bet is that the creation story, the garden of Eden, Noah, the sun stopping, and others are all cases where subsequent generations began treating allegory or hyperbole as if it were fact. And, as allegory they are usually more deeply meaningful as well as being immune from scientific assault. Religion might actually become more meaningful by moving back to treating these as allegorical.

I do hope we can learn to accept influence from science in our public policy decision making. That seems like a more possible objective and one that is seriously important.

I want to know: What change could have been faster than it was?

    Evolution? Biology?

    Relativity?

    Cosmology?

    Climatology?

    Particle physics?

And, if we want it to move faster, what would our most effective method for accomplishing that be?

So you're supporting the tyranny of political correctness, rather than individual rights? Bravo!:applause:

Anyway Jesus is not a role model, He is God's Word and He brought us the full revelation of God ... which is pure virtue and love.

Only the arrogant are stupid. They form opinions and conclude everything through their own minds, never questioning the limitations of their knowledge and experience.

I am going to correct something here. I said that Jesus is not a role model, when I meant he is not 'just' a role model. Sorry about that.

The flood is not something that one can approve of or disprove of, it either happened or it didn't. If it did, then it is reality.

I have news for you kiddo, there's a genocide of Christians going on in Syria by the terrorists we support, and of the Russians in the Donbas by the Ukrainian junta who we support. How caring have you been about it, that is if you even know about it? There's also a genocide going on against the Yemenis and the Shia by Saudi Arabia who we also support.

The American coalition has been killing Syrian civilians non stop in Raqqa and the Syrian government is freaking out and wants them to get the hell out of their country, so tell me how concerned have you been about them... or do you see them as 'untermensh' and therefore don't give a damn.

If "god" caused it, to kill humans, can you condemn his as genocidal, like I do?

PS if you a person can't condemn genocide then they might want to take a long hard look in the mirror.

    I agree with you.
    Islam is the problem.
Yes, we can't kill our way out of this war! Only an theological/ideological solution will work.

I love them more than Jesus does, because if I had Jesus' super-powers then I would come down immediately and educate the people as to which is the one true account of Jesus - did he die on the cross (Christian version) or not (Islamic version), and that would greatly help solve this war. Would you do that, Jeannette, in an effort to save lives? I would, how about you?

PS Jesus ("Isa") is the Islamic messiah (as well as the Christian one of course), so him educating people on this matter would be about the best thing that could be done to help end this endless barbaric war.

Yes, that's terrible. So apparently, like me, you condemn genocide....so then condemn god in the Bible for his "flood" genocide....if you are intellectually consistent like Modern Secular Humanists are. Can you do that...or are some genocides "ok" with you?

What you are calling "political corectness" happens to be the fundamental right to equality of every American - not just those Americans with almost no skin pigment.
