Obama can't tell the difference between the South Atlantic and the Indian Oceans. This is truly pathetic. He doesn't know the difference between the Maldives and the Malvinas. Fool. Ignorant Fool. Democrat.

"President Obama erred during a speech at the Summit of the Americas in Cartagena, Colombia, when attempting to call the disputed archipelago by its Spanish name.

Instead of saying Malvinas, however, Mr Obama referred to the islands as the Maldives, a group of 26 atolls off that lie off the South coast of India.

The Maldives were a British protectorate from 1887 to 1965 and the site of a UK airbase for nearly 20 years.

Cristina Kirchner, the Argentine president, has renewed her country's sovereignty claim to the Falklands in the build-up to the 30th anniversary of the Argentine invasion of the islands, which triggered the Falklands War, on April 2.

She has accused David Cameron of maintaining a "colonial enclave" in the South Atlantic and taken Argentina's claim to the UN..."

Wow he mixed up similar sounding names he probably uses very rarely... In case you haven’t noticed, for the past 30ish years allot of the world has been watching the U.S as a whole and laughing. Until they realize that the comical struggle between ideological morons who support and empower a corrupt and morally and ethically bankrupt government are armed to the teeth and looking for another target to exploit before the last remnants of their ability to realize their greed fades away.

The most embarrassing thing about this gaffe is that Obama was delivering an address at the time to leaders at a Summit of the Americas.

I rarely agree with your psuedo-racist/ extremist rightwing meanderings... but this comment is spot on... in a way. Obama is an incompetent at running this country... but his incompetence is premeditated and acheives pretty much what he is after. Obama appears an incompetent to the people he fails... but he is a genius to those that empowered him to do exactly as he is doing. Bush was just a bumbling moron.

The reason you agree with me is because you can't defend the undefendable.

Yep.... that and I feel pretty much the same way..... and wouldnt attempt to defend what I dont think deserves defending

Obama appears an incompetent to the people he fails... but he is a genius to those that empowered him to do exactly as he is doing. Bush was just a bumbling moron. In the end they are/were both incompetent

The skill set necessary to achieve electoral success is very different than the skill set necessary to govern. The phrase "seeds of its own destruction" comes to mind.

obama will be wanting to build a multi-TRILLION DOLLAR spur line of the INTERCONTINENTAL RAILROAD to the Maldives and the Malvinas, so he can take Michelle there by rail after he loses the election.

There are many things we Americans have missed including, but not limited to, an understanding of geography.

Not half as much as we still laugh at GWB and the fools that voted for him.

    Consider Obama an improvement.

Tell that to the soldiers who are yet destined to die in Afghanistan over Obama's pointless war. Tell that to the sleeping villagers of Pakistan who live in fear of nightime visits by flying robots. This is Obama's doing. Bush erred in other ways.

Fortunately your opinion is of no consequence in American electoral politics.

No. Obama didn't refer to the South Atlantic Malvinas Islands/Falkland Islands while addressing the leaders at the Summit of the Americas. Instead Obama referred to the Malidive Islands lying in the Indian Ocean. Faux Pas Extraordiaire. Ne c'est pas?

The Afganistan war that GWB started or Obama? Seriously do you ever think before you type?

But lets get back to the Falklands and "foreigners laughing at Obama". I can honestly say that mutiple times a week a friend of mine impersonates a Bushish. None yet for Obama.

This thread is the very definition of thread-fail.

There's a faulty premise in your argument. Obama significantly escalated the war by doubling the number of troops in 2009 from 50k to 100k. Obama also adopted the nation building counterinsurgency strategy, and launched a comprehensive campaign of drone attacks at night on Pakistani villagers. Those are both qualitative and quantitative changes which made the conflict in Afghanistan into Obama's War. He owns it lock, stock and barrel.

He's having to do this to mop up Rummy's mess - the one where you can invade nations with minimal soldiers - the one that didn't work.

Obama is trying to get out of Afganistan without the US having egg on its face. Pretty difficult considering the huge (*)(*)(*)(*) up of Bush and Rummy.

I don't see this as at a big issue at all. Just the usual American ant-fockers making a big thing out of nothing. One of the reasons your country is down in the crapper. Who, in his right mind, cares about something trivial like this? Seriously.

However, it could be perceived as a small provocation by the British -- who never, ever!, use "Malvinas".
