And yet, in 2010, I will dig the study out in a bit, it was shown that despite spending more per head on state and private education, in the US, that when compared to a range of other nations, including several in Europe, the US finished last in science, maths, and history?

What is wrong then, and why is this so?

 

Everyone is to blame. No one is innocent.

About twenty percent of American parents are able to direct and advocate for their children. The remaining parents are like dumb beasts incapable of helping their children.

Teaching was once a profession. A calling. It was an honor to be a teacher. That's over.

Teaching now attracts many people who should be working at take out restaurants. They are politicized and unionized to the point where they have become a vested special interest primarily interested in maintenance of the status quo.

There is simply no hope of reform. Collapse will be required to sweep the decks clean, and allow a new start for a new generation. The current generation is lost to us.

At least in the context of the US public, and much of Britian, I have to add.

Perhaps one of the reasons for the poor results, and producing people who believe Africa to be a country (actually, Albert, it is really odd, because after mentioning that here, someone American went right out and did it, on another thread), is the US predisposition for 'home schooling'?

The regulations in the US around this seem rather relaxed, to say the least, with all sorts of mentally ill people, with no experience or proper teaching degree, eduacting their own kids. Except they are often wrong and dumb, not to mention narrow minded, so the kids are getting no sort of education at all.

Home schooling is a desperate reaction to the failure of the public schools usually by parents unable to afford private school and not savvy enough to develop charter schools.

The entire public school system in America will have to be collapsed, and destroyed root, branch and trunk. All vested interests will have to be swept away. Most American teachers are very poorly educated themselves.

Attempting to discuss literature with these benighted teachers is very revealing. They crumble in the presence of those who were educated in an earlier era.

 

Home schooling'

Now it might benefit a tiny minority of children who have rich parents who have the time to educate their child using their own brilliance. But for the rest of the kids, they are sat down in front of wiki or google and left to get on with it.

And this does explain, why on this forum, Americans constantly try to prove points with wiki links. They been brought up with that view. It is all they understand.

We all like to be well educated. I do find education important. I actually have 2 degrees. Computer science and philosophy, and would dearly love to go back for another.

Although i am proud of my early education, i went to public school, which did have passionate teachers. Some more than others. Class friends, one is a pro footballer in the premier league and another works in a think tank.

Education is far more important to let it fall apart in meaningless arguments against teachers, to put the full weight of responciblity on the parents. Alas this being a forum with rabid conservatives, they always shout foul of social policies with govermental progression.

They want the 'free market' to be their guiding light. Which unfourantly means, in this case. USA parents spending a small fortune on teaching aids and not just working but also trying their best to educate a child in numoures academic study.

And i will repeat, on this forum it does show with the failing of the education system. And once that happens it will take a huge effort to change it.

Education is a lifelong endevour. Something new is learned every day. As decade after decade after decade passes it is possible to arrive at some insights.

 

One was, i was a mature student in the other.

Yes education is important. Although it is interesting, even with this view. Some still support home schooling.
