    A possibility of peaceful change of the political regime and a country torn apart. What would a wise government choose? And what might be the reasons to choose the other, more bloody option?
    I like the glory of a country fighting for the right thing. I like when our country protects its citizens. But I don't like what happened to Libya. And if there had been some other option... I would like to know what were the real reasons of meddling into the country's inner affairs. For removing Gadhafi wasn't one, that is for sure.

    Libya all about oil, or central banking?
    By Ellen Brown

    Several writers have noted the odd fact that the Libyan rebels took time out from their rebellion in March to create their own central bank - this before they even had a government. Robert Wenzel wrote in the Economic Policy Journal:

    I have never before heard of a central bank being created in just a matter of weeks out of a popular uprising. This suggests we have a bit more than a rag tag bunch of rebels running around and that there are some pretty sophisticated influences.

    Gaddafi did not believe what happened would happen because what has happened is what he said would happen. He never believed we wanted this.

    The Arab states repeatedly asked Ghadafi to step down and go into exile.. He refused. At the end... even his friend in VZ which had initially offered him sanctuary , wouldn't touch him.

    Also Libya imports 90% of its food with oil revenues.. You can't sell oil or buy food with gold bars.. Time and interest would eat up your profits. That was a dumb conspiracy theory.

    It's the "dignity" part that makes the diffrence, what would an iron fist dictator regard as dignified resigning ? would he even consider that if it was'nt for NATO?

    Are you suggesting that if Gadhafi managed to win over the rebels he would then step down ? or was NATO supposed to fight the rebels for him and then negotiate his resgining? none of those options sound reasonable to me, his ONLY option was to run away when his army broke down instead of shouting from a balcony how he will win street by street.

    Read up on the history of banking in Libya.. and naturally they didn't want Libyan institutions to fail..

    I initially had some cautious hopes for Libya because they had an enlightened Constitution under King Idris.. I thought they would go back to it..

    In any case, you can't do international business in gold bullion... Those transactions are electronic and instantaneous.

    Yup, Hillary Clinton.....

    Hillary Clinton Destroyed Libya for No Good Reason

    Top Pentagon officials and a senior Democrat in Congress so distrusted Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s 2011 march to war in Libya that they opened their own diplomatic channels with the Gadhafi regime in an effort to halt the escalating crisis, according to secret audio recordings recovered from Tripoli.

    The tapes, reviewed by The Washington Times and authenticated by the participants, chronicle U.S. officials’ unfiltered conversations with Col. Moammar Gadhafi’s son and a top Libyan leader, including criticisms that Mrs. Clinton had developed tunnel vision and led the U.S. into an unnecessary war without adequately weighing the intelligence community’s concerns.

    “You should see these internal State Department reports that are produced in the State Department that go out to the Congress. They’re just full of stupid, stupid facts,” an American intermediary specifically dispatched by the Joint Chiefs of Staff told the Gadhafi regime in July 2011, saying the State Department was controlling what intelligence would be reported to U.S. officials.

    At the time, the Gadhafi regime was fighting a civil war that grew out of the Arab Spring, battling Islamist-backed rebels who wanted to dethrone the longtime dictator. Mrs. Clinton argued that Gadhafi might engage in genocide and create a humanitarian crisis and ultimately persuaded President Obama, NATO allies and the United Nations to authorize military intervention.

    The entire article is fascinating.

    Hillary Clinton: "We came, we saw, he's dead. HAHAHAHA!!"

    I can just see an ad with the video of her saying that set beside video of Gaddafi being sodomized in the street (there are videos of both). Should win her a lot of votes.

    During the civil war, Gaddafi said something along the lines of "I cannot leave my country. I will die a martyr".

    Doesn't sound like someone who wanted to surrender.

    Does this sound like a country that was ripe for an organic internal revolt?

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-884508
    Here are some Facts you probably do not know about Libya under Muammar Gaddafi: • There was no electricity bills in Libya; electricity is free … for all its citizens. • There was no interest on loans, banks in Libya are state-owned and loans given to all its citizens at 0% interest by law. • If a Libyan is unable to find employment after graduation, the state would pay the average salary of the profession as if he or she is employed until employment is found. • Should Libyans want to take up a farming career, they receive farm land, a house, equipment, seed and livestock to kick start their farms –this was all for free. • Gaddafi carried out the world’s largest irrigation project, known as the Great Man-Made River project, to make water readily available throughout the desert country. • A home was considered a human right in Libya. (In Qaddafi’s Green Book it states: “The house is a basic need of both the individual and the family, therefore it should not be owned by others.”) • All newlyweds in Libya would receive 60,000 Dinar (US$ 50,000 ) by the government to buy their first apartment so to help start a family. • A portion of Libyan oil sales is or was credited directly to the bank accounts of all Libyan citizens. • A mother who gives birth to a child would receive US $5,000. • When a Libyan buys a car, the government would subsidizes 50% of the price. • The price of petrol in Libya was $0.14 per liter. • For $ 0.15, a Libyan local could purchase 40 loaves of bread. • Education and medical treatments was all free in Libya. Libya can boast one of the finest health care systems in the Arab and African World. All people have access to doctors, hospitals, clinics and medicines, completely free of charge. • If Libyans cannot find the education or medical facilities they need in Libya, the government would fund them to go abroad for it – not only free but they get US $2,300/month accommodation and car allowance. • 25% of Libyans have a university degree. Before Gaddafi only 25% of Libyans were literate. Today the figure is 87%. • Libya had no external debt and its reserves amount to $150 billion –though much of this is now frozen globally.
    Sounds good doesn't it? Those programs were started under Idris... Ghadaffi threw out the Libyan Constitution that said the everyone was equal under the law regardless of ethnicity, tribal affiliation, religion or gender..
    Then Ghadaffi killed the oil business in 1970 and drove out Tobruk and Wheelus when he hired Abdullah Tariki who was rabidly anti-American and had been canned in KSA..
    Of course his police and military were all African mercenaries because the Libyan tribes hated Ghadaffi .. and the Libyans have the strongest tribal affiliations in the whole region.
    There is little to no farming in Libya.. They import 90% of their food.
    Perhaps you'd like to explain the largesse if Gaddafi 'killed the oil business', as you say.
    Much of what you posted is propaganda because funds did dry up until Bush took a chance and let Ghadaffi back into the international community.
