Yes, but you are French. French are taught in school to like Germans. And Germans (maybe not Volkie -- he was taught to love Russians) in general are taught to like the French. Anyhow, last thursday was an European summit and in all honesty... I'm still waiting on someone to make a thread about that -- it's almost like waiting for Godot. Anyhow, on friday I was sitting with my mother -- and she knows nothing about the EU -- in the livingroom and we were watching the news. Of course, the European Summit was explained (and I assume just as it was around the rest of Europe that friday night). And suddenly, my mother started a tyrade: "What's up with that Merkel woman? She's bossing everyone around" and she went on for about half a minute. So, I'm not really making this up.
Not true. We still are angry at German architects when we go vacating on some of France's beaches. Why don't you make it yourself, if you want to hear other people's opinions? Is she American? If your mother says so, it must be true.
French was a compulsory subject in my East German class. I like the Frenchies a lot, having French roots and all, but I applied for changing from French class to English class. I learnt French at Institut français later. She is East German, it is her God given right to boss everyone around.
On a more serious note, you know very well that I wan't lying about what French and German kids are being taught about the special Fraco-German relationship. Nobody really cares anyway, they somehow are more concerned about the legality of internet pornography. Nope, altough... she's partially British. Which could explain a lot. No need to slur. You very well know what I was trying to say.
If the Franco-German "special relationship" is anything like the British-American one, there is no reason to be concerned. Let's forgive the Scots, they got Shakespeare backward: "Too nude, too roisterous, and it tricks like porn." Yes, I know, I was only trying to lighten up the mood. Bleak weather over here.
It's terrible weather everywhere! My train was canceled, so I had to wait for about 45min on the next one! Not to mention that the bikepaths and footpaths are in a terrible condition. I often wonder if some people don't have any feeling of social responsability?! Our driveway and footpath are swept clean, and salt has been thrown so people can move comfortably. So many people don't do this at all. Not to mention they are breaking the law, well -- in the sense that if a person trips in front of your house (and when you didn't swept the snow away and have taken measures to get rid of the ice, and if the person is wounded because of her/his fall) you can get drawn in front of court.
The Franco-German special relationship is more like Beauty and the Beast. (In the end everyone comes out good). The British-American special relationship is more like the relationship of a Priest-Altar Boy. (In the end things don't turn out good).
I do it too, but I usually get tired and surrender before the end of the Winter. It is the first year I quit before the Winter has even started: Just kidding, I will be up early in the morning to clear the driveway/parkway for our plumber; he is of British descent btw, his English ancestor decided to settle in France after they lost the 100 years war
I'm always wondering, it's winter in Germany and German authorities and enterprises seem to be surprised every year, that it is snowing outside. When I lived in Russia, they had like twenty times as much snow and there were no problems at all.
Don't tell me. Each time there is a few inches of snow here, we start worshipping Canadians who have to cope with several feet of it. However we often forget to praise them in the Summer, when we have to use Canadairs to extinguish our forrest fires:shrug:

Sooo true, especially if minimum 2 Americans (including me) thought this. Also, interesting that our most famous skyscrapers the Twin Towers of the New York World Trade Center were a Japanese design too. I wonder what you think of the planned replacement for the Twin Towers. It is an American design, but it really doesn't even come close to the original Japanese one ... . (Come to think about this more deeply, we Americans never had a sense for shapes, not even our women. Okay, with the exception of the old style Coca Cola bottles, that we got rid of these days too.)
I love Sauerkraut a lot. I really-really like it, even my cat likes it. (I gave him a little and he gobbled it up. Before, he chewed grass in the garden. Class upgrade.) I know you would love it to be Spanish, but, sorry, no dice for you, nice effort though. YES YES YES !!!!!!!!!!!! This is my major problem about my homeland. Is it even worthwhile to take up arms to defend it, when so minimally few women even care about their shapes, and then the few that have a shape think that they are way above normal and better than everyone else only because of it?????
