Oh, and thanks to Simcity4, I already was aware of the Gateway Arch when I was 14 or 15 y.o.

I notice, you did not quote the paragraph. How could you have done so? A paragraph, which says, the EU is not an organization, does not exist in this text.

No vendettas, I call people out for making stupid personal attacks against me. There are some idiots here, didn't you know?

You still have no argument, I see.

I would be happy to acknowledge anything your present that is correct and verified, but for you to continue to rant about how the encyclopedia britannica is all wrong when they refer to the EU as an organization makes it hard to take you seriously. the discussion has become totally inane.

that said, LA the cultural capital of the US? where did that come from? Current pop culture, perhaps, in music and film, but not on any other measure.

Non-Americans continue to misunderstand that the US has no one capital, even in the political sense. Unlike the UK or France which have one city which is the political, legal, financial, commericial and cultural capital of the nation.

Which is why so many find Germany to be not only a wonderful destination and nation, but most similar to the U.S.

Germany has a long list of "destination" cities that, like America, have special personalities.

    Berlin
    Hamburg
    Lubeck
    Frankfurt
    Wiesbaden
    Baden Baden
    Munich
    Dresden
    Leipzig
    Hannover

    to list a few.

Germany is an important country in Europe. They are leaders in many things such as in Science and Technology. What has Germany contributed to European culture? Well, how about Wagner, Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms. Great literature? Think Walther von der Vogelweide and Wolfram von Eschenbach . Architecture? Germany has beautiful examples that reflect the Gothic styles, Baroque and Renaissance as well. The arts are important to Germans and you will find over 300 theatres and 500 museums in Germany. Germany is wunderbar!

The entire modernist movement in art and architecture was given birth in Germany 100+ years ago. Can't leave that out of the nation's vast cultural accomplishments for the world's enhanced lifestyles and enjoyment.

Not agreeing with you here, e.g. Belgium and France played an essential role in this too. Spain to a lesser degree.

Germany has Jugdenstil -- Belgium and France have Art Nouveau.

and how is modernism displaced by art nouveau?

Art Nouveau and Jugendstil are essentially one in the same. Different names for the same art style.

I specifically referred to the early 20th century modernist movement that included groups such as the Bridge, The bauhaus, blue rider and others within which we got works by van der Rohe, Kandinsky, Bleyl, Hoffmann, etc, most of whom are credited with the main thrust behind abstract expressionism and modern architecture.

It should also be noted that the film industry got its roots and early beginnings in Germany due to its leading edge photographic and lens technology.

It's so nice to have fresh intellectual input .
You must have travelled the length and breadth of the EU on many occasions to come up with that Ficking nonsense .

Perhaps the original quote was a bit poorly written, but in terms of "intellect" and "nonsense" Raymondo, you might pick up any major newspaper in Europe, England or America or tune into any news/financial radio or TV shows and you might get updated as to how Germany's economy is indeed the reason why the EU is barely working and without Germany, it would crumble.

Being " halb Deutsch ", I have an extra reason for not having problems in being aware of ruling events in the Mother Country , let alone elsewhere .
Your proposition is well understood -- I first visited Germany in '48 and have followed matters ever since ..
There are manufacturing sector reasons why Germany is so successful .
But remember the larger part of their exports go to fellow EU member countries and without them the Duck is dead . Or Goose .
To some extent Germany has benefited from the EU lame ducks and some say has unfairly exploited them .
Their come -uppance will arrive as their own Banks have to take crippling hits from loans to Italy , France and Spain via their respective key banks . Far greater amounts than those the UK will need to absorb .
The proposition that the EU as it is now would be a disaster without Germany is silly , imo . Because without Germany in the first place , the Union would have had different rules and a different growth rate etc etc .There might even have been no union whatsoever .
Your suggestion seems like chiding someone for the purchase of a car that had no engine . But clearly the car would never be purchased in the first place until it had been checked for having one .
