    Yes.

Our planet’s temperature peaked in 2016 and has been in a disciplined decline since. It is in a channel 0.5°C wide with a slope of -0.03°C per annum. The atmosphere had been warming at 0.013°C per annum according to Dr Roy Spencer’s work. If the established cooling trend continues it will only take another decade to get back to the temperatures of the early 1980s. With the cooling trend firmly established, the question is: Can the proximate cause be found in the solar record?

Yes, sustained multimillennial-high solar activity in the 20th century restored the earth to more normal Holocene temperatures following the coldest 500-year period in the last 10,000 years.

Of course that is nonscience. At most, it's only the hottest in the 200 years since the LIA, the coldest 500-year period in the last 10,000 years. Britain was consistently warmer in the MWP, when wine grapes were grown as far north as the Midlands, as well as during the Holocene Optimum, when the earth was warmer than today.

NASA Study: Mass Gains of Antarctic Ice Sheet Greater than Losses
According to the new analysis of satellite data, the Antarctic ice sheet showed a net gain of 112 billion tons of ice a year from 1992 to 2001. That net gain slowed to 82 billion tons of ice per year between 2003 and 2008. ... Scientists calculate how much the ice sheet is growing or shrinking from the changes in surface height that are ...

As for Germany, unfortunately as in "God I hope not", they may be looking at forced decarbonization rather than sitting around making noise about it.

Gazprom Declares Force Majeure, Will Halt Gas Flows To Germany Indefinitely
    [IMG]
"Reuters cites source saying letter to "European customer" in question is Germany"...

Russia shut the gas off for "maintenance" on the 12th and was supposed to turn it back on, on the 22nd. "UBS economists laid out a detailed vision of what they see happening if Russia halts gas deliveries to Europe: It would reduce corporate earnings by more than 15%. The market selloff would exceed 20% in the Stoxx 600 and the euro would drop to 90 cents. The rush for safe assets would drive benchmark German bund yields to 0%, they wrote."

“We stress that these projections should be seen as rough approximations and by no means as a worse-case scenario,” wrote Arend Kapteyn, chief economist at UBS.

“We could easily conceive economic disruptions that lead to more negative growth outcomes.”

    Trump warned the Germans firmly:

    And he warned them gently:

And were the Republicans still in charge we would have a vibrant energy sector that could step in and supply more of the missing Russian supply that he warned them that they were fools to trust.

Now the German people are going to try to run a 21st century economy on solar panels and windmills? They are actually modeling how to keep their people from freezing this winter by reconverting to wood heat!

These deluded rich privileged gentry fools, if they have enough unaccountable power, will force their societies into suicide because they are fools. The working and the middle class can never operate in such delusion because they do not have the margins for error that the foolish wealthy do. This is why we in the US Working and Middle Class must remain in control of policy, so that fools, like those that were running Germany and Sri Lanka never gain unaccountable control over the necessities for life.

Heat wave kills more than 1,100 people in Spain and Portugal

Over 1,100 people have died in Spain and Portugal from heat-related causes over the past week as an unprecedented heat wave moves through Europe.

Driving the news: The ongoing heat wave could last a total of several weeks and has been accompanied by wildfires in France, Spain and Portugal, forcing thousands of people to flee their homes.

    • Severe heat waves are of particular concern in Europe as they can often prove extremely deadly due to air conditioning being less ubiquitous than in the U.S.
    • A complete death toll likely will not be available for weeks or more due to the difficulty in counting excess deaths in a heat event.

I wonder if any of the deceased were climate change deniers, like Jack and bringiton?

The claimed death total is an estimate of dubious credibility, and cold kills more than heat.

Should we worry about a coming ice age? No doubt your "scientists" could come up with a theory to "prove" it.

LISBON, July 19 (Reuters) - Portugal has reported more than 1,000 deaths due to the current heat wave, with the health chief warning on Tuesday that the country must gear up to cope with the effects of climate change as temperatures continue to rise.

"Portugal ... is among one of the areas of the globe that could be (more) affected by extreme heat," Graça Freitas, head of health authority DGS, told Reuters. "We have to be more and more prepared for periods of high temperatures."

Flawed Heatwave Report Leads to False Headlines in Major Media

Last week we witnessed a major failure in science communication regarding the Northwest heatwave.

A failure that misinformed you and millions of others, and a failure that highlighted glaring weaknesses in the media's ability to cover important scientific issues. And it revealed the disappointing behavior of some members of the scientific community.

    The Northwest Heatwave Attribution Study

During the last week of June, the U.S. Pacific Northwest and southwest Canada experienced the most severe heatwave on record. So extreme that all-time high-temperature records were not only broken but obliterated. My recent blogs describe the situation in detail.

Within a week, an international group of scientists, policy researchers, and others rushed to create and distribute an attribution analysis of the heatwave. A study trumpeting an extreme claim in the first sentence of the report:

"Based on observations and modeling, the occurrence of a heatwave with maximum temperatures as observed in the area was virtually impossible without human-caused climate change"

As I will show below and previously demonstrated in my recent blogs, this claim is not supported in the document or by the rigorous science, and, in fact, the material in the attribution report contradicts this assertion. I will provide substantial evidence that the heatwave attribution report, which has not been submitted for peer-review, is profoundly flawed, with serious technical and interpretative errors.

But the lack of peer review and the obvious problems with the study did not stop it from becoming front-page news in both mainstream and secondary media, including the NY Times, the Seattle Times, the Washington Post, CNN, and many more. . . .

Translation; you can't accept the reported numbers since you questioned their veracity. It's a denial thing that deniers do.

The claim of a climate crisis is not based on data.
Climate Crisis? Ever Fewer People Dying Of Climate Disasters. There’s Hype, And There’s Reality
    By P Gosselin on 20. July 2022

In yesterday’s post, I mentioned how the climate crazies and media are falling all over themselves, trying to get people to think we’re in crisis and that the only way out is to declare a permanent state of emergency, rationing and lockdowns .

But of course our weather and climate situation is not something we haven’t experienced before. It’s what weather does: behave abnormally. Today we present some charts to show that we are not in a “climate crisis”. Hat-tip: Marcell Oberfeld. . . .

WHAT’S UNBEARABLE IS THAT WOKE WHITE PEOPLE’S NEUROSES ARE DRIVING POLICY: Professor: ‘Unbearable’ that white people dominate discussions about ‘climate anxiety.’

More navel gazing by the leisure class:

'The “unbearable whiteness” caused a “growing discomfort” in California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt Professor Sarah Ray (who’s white, by the way) early in 2021, so much so that she wrote an op-ed about it.'

“[A] year into the pandemic, after the murder of George Floyd and the protests that followed, and the attack on the U.S. Capitol, I am deeply concerned about the racial implications of climate anxiety,” Ray (pictured) wrote.

“If people of color are more concerned about climate change than white people, why is the interest in climate anxiety so white? Is climate anxiety a form of white fragility or even racial anxiety?”

The Privileged Leisure Class Determines That They Are More Alarmed Because They Have Bigger Vocabularies:

"In fact, “climate anxiety” itself is a “very privileged” term as affluent whites apparently have a bigger vocabulary to express how it affects them. By contrast, a climate activist had asked Filipinos how they felt after two typhoons had hit the country. Not many talked about it because mental health issues aren’t usually a topic of discussion. Thus, “people don’t even have the words for it because it’s not correlated in people’s minds.”

Prof: Climate change is ‘white colonization of the atmosphere’

We send these Universities too much money and they are losing their minds. Reality would re-embrace them if they had less leisure and were more conversant with the everyday struggles that the sane do.

HotWhopper is a crank site. As noted previously (and often) Gosselin is an aggregator. Here are the data; care to discuss?
First we look at deaths from climate-related disasters.

Figure 1: Climate related disasters. Technology and fossil fuels have payed a major role in this development.

The real crisis was 100 years ago.

    Climate costs

Next we look at the cost of societal problems compared to climate costs:

    Figure 2. Source: Björn Lomborg

Climate change is comparatively a small problem, and so it’s no wonder many people view climate change as something they don’t worry about. Very much on people’s minds nowadays is the totally fouled up economy that the climate alarmists are in large part responsible for.

    Record low flood deaths

Professor Lomborg also analyzed the number of people killed by floods in Europe, Figure 3:

    Figure 3. Source: Björn Lomborg

Once again we have technology and fossil fuels to thank for that successful development. But for alarmists, it’s always the fire fighters who are responsible for the fires.

    Cold kills far more

When they’re are heat waves, the climate crazies always seize on the few dozen deaths that occur. But when there are cold waves, they keep silent. And as professor Lomborg shows again, in a chart appearing in Lancet, cold today still kills far more people than heat does:

Figure 4: Cold kills nine times more people than heat. Source: Björn Lomborg

    Central Europe trending wetter

Europe is suffering ever more from drought, the alarmists claim, and soon there will be a planetary emergency. Yet, when we look at the rainfall for Germany going back 140 years, wee see that the long-term trend is the opposite: wetter.

Figure 5: Annual rainfall anomaly (in percent). Source: DWD German National Weather Service

The last decade in Germany has been dry, and this is due to natural cycles. But over the long-term, we see it has gotten wetter since industrialization began.

There are many other metrics showing there’s no crisis we need to worry about. What we indeed need to worry about are the alarmists declaring a permanent state of emergency and taking rights, truths and freedoms away. If that happens, then the planet will surely go to hell in a handbasket really quickly.
