Until we can convince criminals not to break the gun laws, then there is no point in making more laws. They are already punished for using them in the act of a crime. What more can we do that will have an effect on the criminals? Lets say you out law all guns today, are you going to stop gun crime?

So let's say NY theoretically had no gun laws......

Do you really think that all of these victims would have chosen to be gun owners AND be up to the challenge of making good on heroic fantasy?

Sure you can. Ban guns. Or require owners to take training. Or make it crime to have a gun in the house with minors without a trigger lock. Etc.

Typical gun nut lack of thought.

    Paranoia much?

I didn't propose disarming anybody. Though that's one option among many.

You're like some guy who thinks traffic lights are a slippery slope toward 1984. That's why its hard to take any gun nut seriously. Pure insecurity coupled with inability to reason results in the NRA and gun massacres.

Already gave those reasons half a dozen times.

But with that you take other risks.

Of course that why they need to be strictly regulated something most people here are against .

And not true, life as you know it in the usa is possibe without guns, but not without cars

In an Amendment, you do realise that means it was added later?

As I already said several times (and give sources for) accidents with guns , guns legaly bought get stolen from shops or homes, people buying guns legaly to sell them to criminals later,...

You didnt answer the question do you think its that high in other countries?

All I can say is how sad it is that a so-called advanced nation feels the need for the population to arm itself, and in such obscene numbers of guns. American society truly is broken.

I constantly hear 'criminals will always be able to get guns', and this is true. No amount of legislation will remove the ability for criminals to get whatever they want-it has always been the case. However what I don't understand is why it is so difficult for some people to comprehend that restricting the easy availabilty of guns-or banning them altogether-must have an effect on the incidence of gun crime. Yeah, I know, the NRA has done a million studies in an attempt to justify its fanatical position on guns-I guess if they weren't so evidently being defensive they wouldn't need to.

It has worked in other countries so why is America so dead-set against regulation and bans? Oh yes, the Holy Grail and touchstone of the Constitution. Look, just because it says you have a right doesn't make it an order.
America will grow up one day and join the rest of the civilsed world. I'm almost convinced of that.

Funny... wasn't the UK Police advocating for a Gun Free Police Force and the Populace to be disarmed? It's too bad that Criminal Organizations will always be able to acquire Guns and bring them into a Nation whether it has Strict Gun Laws or Not. The Major issue is what are the people going to rely on? The Police who may take 5-45minutes to get to you? Can't rely on them because they're no longer duty bound to protect the Citizens.

    http://www.firearmsandliberty.com/kasler-protection.html

So do you hope that you're able to cower in dark corner of your home with intent of not being killed even if they take all of your possesions? Or do you rise up against the Criminal/Invader scum and kill them? If everyone was carrying a pistol at all times in the USA the amount of possible robberies would definately drop because the Criminals themselves would have to deal with all of Citizens being able to protect themselves. Having strict gun laws only helps the State and Criminals... not the people themselves and history has proven that to be so.

More children drown in 5 gallon buckets in the USA every year than die in gun accidents...

We used to joke a long time ago the criminals will have more rights than us, today it is no joke, as it is more fact than fiction. The crook or mugger that acts in an aggressive manner, is more often looking at a victim who is more worried about being sued then defending himself....Put this together with the constant dumbing down of job qualifications and you have a modern, capable society being dragged down by our own doing.
The United States does not need outside enemies, we have ourselves...

Sure, got a source for that? Gun deaths are 500-1000 a year. Half of those are children.

criminals have nothing to fear because of progressives, they get off easy and also because of progressives if you fight criminals back when they are trying to violate you in one way or another you yourself can be taken to jail or possibly sued.

and the fact that progressives want to take away guns from law abiding citizens only helps the criminals more and they thank you because criminals will always be able to get a gun. them knowing we cant carry and protect ourselves from another gun makes them happy, and obviously big fans of you progressives. another reason why criminals and thugs and gang members vote democrat, because you give them more power than the ordinary law abiding citizen.

but who cares about all that, you could care less how many innocent get violated or murdered by criminals because we cant defend ourselves, the only thing that matters to you progressives is that your way is implemented in our lives, controlling law abiding citizens and its very obvious you have no problem sacrificing a good bit of us law abiding citizens for your cause.

dont you see, you are criminals best friends, from illegals, to drug dealers and gangsters, to bank robbers, to burglars and many other shameful walks of life who have no regard for anothers life. a vote for progressives/liberals/democrats is a vote for being defenseless and giving the scum of the earth more power over us.

you should be proud of yourselves.

you see its not about rights, criminals dont care about rights or the law, its about power.

    Thats actually BS.

Criminals do have things to fear the USA criminal system hasnt changed that much and certainly not just by "progressives"

Fighting back is always alowed withn the limits of the law, has been that way for a long time.

But this is BS, USA has THE highest gun possesion rate of all western countries and has one of the highest crime rates of western countries. Arming the USA didnt work .

Add to that there is an undeniable link between more legal gun possesion and the ease criminals can ontain guns and gun accidents.

A very stupid and blatent lie.

lol oh please, because of progressives and their bleedingheart way of thinking criminals get off to commit crime over and over. a murderer who should be facingf death or life in PRISON can get off simply by pleading insanity where they then are transfered to an easier way of life in a nut house rather than face the punishment they deserve.

our justice system is a joke, if it were that scary and actually punoished those who deserved it it might be a little intimidating. but just like progressives and liberals, the justice system is spineless.

lol you cant fight back, you will out of most times end up in jail for protecting yourself and whats yours. because of liberals and their bleedingheart BS if a criminal comes at you in your own home and in the end you deal him an ass kicking he wont forget you progressives make the victim who protected him or herself the criminal, then basically tell the true victim he or she should have stayed in their room and let the criminal do whatever they wanted to their house or just gave up the possession they asked for. hell liberals blame women for getting raped because they like to look good.

progressives for some reason have a soft spot for criminals and come down harder on the ones protecting themselves.

we have been armed for hundreds of years. the law abiding citizens are not the problem, the criminals are the issue. you know the ones who unlawfully arm themselves? show me how man times law abiding citizens who carry have grouped up together to rob banks or stores, or go on a killing spree, or do drive by shootings, or to run drugs, or toobreak into someones house and hold them hostage? it wont be too many at all that fit that bill but guess who does? oh yeah the criminals who ILLEGALLY posses weapons.

and you say arming the country didnt work, so you think taking away guns from law abiding citizens will? how are you gonna keep criminals from illegally obtaining a fire arm? oh wait ya cant so guns will still be in the wrong hands and they will stilll be killing innocent people on a daily basis, and most likely at a higher rate with criminals knowing a law abiding citizen is not allowed to carry.

you see liberals and progressives need to come out of this fantasy land where they believe taking guns away from law abiding citizens will cure the gun problem and realize the fact that wont do anything but make us sitting ducks for criminals and pretty much render us helpless.

and hey look at chicago, they have a gun ban going on but its seems like it workin just fine for them eh? oh wait its constantly still got gang violence and murders on a daily basis.

once again, you liberal progressives are a criminals best friend, they would love nothing more than for you to not even acknowledge the fact that law abiding citizens who carry are not the problem, they want you to take away our guns. makes a criminals life that much easier.

once again good for you,way to make your constituents happy and keep their votes comin on in.

if its anything you should be attacking it should be guns that are obtained illegally, not the ones who are law abiding citizens.

More rubbish; do you have any idea how stringent the tests for insanity are? Furthermore a defendant pleading insanity is typically likely to serve twice as long incarcerated if he is found guilty, so it isn't an easy option. It's ok though, nobody is taking your little comfort blanket away. We, in the civilised world, are quite happy for you to carry on blasting away at each other because your precious constitution allows you to. http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Insanity+Defense

About 80 actual children 14 and under die in firearm accidents every year, or one every 4 days

    http://webappa.cdc.gov/cgi-bin/brok...t=custom&ethnicty=0&ranking=20&deathtle=Death

If you define 'child' as 18 or under the number rockets to 110. or 1 every 3 days

    http://webappa.cdc.gov/cgi-bin/brok...t=custom&ethnicty=0&ranking=20&deathtle=Death

704 children 14 and under died in 2008 of drowning. I can no longer find my data as to cause but it had been over 100 when I last looked.

For your numbers to work, you have to broaden the definition to include homicide and suicide and then redefine 'children' to include gang bangers and drug dealers up to age 25.

Lies, the prisons have never been this full.

If you follow the law: you wont.

Strange you seem he need to defend some criminals while complaining others arent punished hard enough.

What is it now, do you want people who violate the law the be punished according to the law or not? Or do you just want this for the laws you agree with ? LMAO

    More stupid lies.

Plenty of studies out there show the level of accidents AND the ease of gun possesion among criminals is directly related to the number of legal guns. No need to deny that. Arm yourself all you want but that only means criminals will have it easier getting arms and probably end up using them.

By taking away the largest source of wich they get there weapons And yes that will take years if not decades. Forget the easy solutions like 'get a gun and everything will be OK'.

Now its from gallon bucket to just in general drowing, figured it was a lie.

And yes by all means regulate pool safety if it saves several hundred children a year isnt that worth it?

Maybe, maybe not, TLBS. That is not the point though. You are taking away the possibility of the maybe. So what we are left with is 67 dead people. If person A [the criminal] tries to shoot person the victim, why not give person the option to arm himself if feels it is necessary?

Actually Landru, that might not be a bad idea. If that was the requirement that would allow more citizens in NYC the ability defend themselves I would be all for it.

Sure, as there are several hundred to thousands accidental drownings a year, or deaths by overdoses.

Maybe it would Snakestrechter, but the question is, would it effect the #'s enough to warrant the disallowance of firearms possession from law abiding citizens?

In my opinion it would not.

That was a 5 gallon bucket, and, as I noted, the numbers I provided were for general drowning and recollection on the bucket rate. The only actual error was in the fellow who made up the number of children accidentally killed by guns as the actual number was 6-10 times smaller, depending how one defines 'children'.

AS I noted, I can no longer find my specific source for bucket drownings but I did find several other sources that put the number between 10 and 40 a year. Here is one of those

    http://marshallbrain.com/cp/buckets.htm

Note this source lowballs the problem but even then, I am still many times closer to the actual number than your inflated accidental gun death number.
