    They used that to pass their Donor Relief Act...and tried to use it to kill Obamacare...but won't use it here

    Probably because they don't have the VOTES.

    Four GOP Senators just voted against the CR that failed. That means that they don't have the 50 votes required for Budget Reconciliation and don't want the nation to realize that

    What? They can use reconciliation to pass this but DON'T HAVE THE VOTES TO EVEN DO THAT

    It has nothing to do with Democrats or caving...

    Reconciliation is ONLY to pass PARTS of a budget, not the WHOLE BUDGET. They use it for adding more money where needed. The problem is government spending for the entire budget, and WHAT the gov spends money on.

    The Byrd Rule (as described below) was adopted in 1985 and amended in 1990. Its main effect has been to prohibit the use of reconciliation for provisions that would increase the deficit beyond 10 years after the reconciliation measure.

    That doesn't apply.

    The dems have nothing to do with it. They can't shut the government down. Republicans own both houses and the white house. There is nothing the DEMS can do about this bill.

    I am sure then your grandmother didn't vote for Trump. She is probably also unlikely to blame the shutdown on Democrats.

    She may also think that "shut er' down" is the GOP dream, since they hate government. Thus, she may rather agree with me than with you, who'd be probably happy to cut her SS check to pay for the tax cuts for the rich.

    Pretty much you have to be working for the government in some capacity to be harmed by this shutdown and even at that only after it has been a reality for some time. The biggest immediate effect -- and it is a very real one -- is that military personnel do not get paid; unless things have changed since I wore a uniform in the olden days.

    But either way, that shutdown was in 2013 and republicans TOOK 9 Senate seats in 2014.

    When are you dems ever going to learn to stop marching in lock-step with each other as you go over the cliff.
