Well I think he was referencing the BoR, that now applies to the feds as well as the states, prohibits the majority from totally taking away some right granted to individuals. Heller decided once and for all that owning firearms is an individual right that may be regulated, but not in a way that substantially hinders defending yourself in your home.

Actually neither of those cities have a majority of minorities as city council members. In Chicago there has only been 2 black mayors and only 4 in Washington DC. I dont think you are correct in your assumptions on racial make ups of the cities important elected officials.

What is even more interesting is how they tried to stop the press for asking people why they opposed Kavanuagh, and the anwers what few they got were quite amusing and non-specific, kicked out of a federal park. The woman heading it up threatened to call the capital police and the journalist urged her to do so. When the capitol police arrive his response was classic "Your right to free speech does not trump his".

Clinton committed multiple felonies in a federal court and federal grand jury. Bush did not. Where does the Constitution grant the federal government the power to tell me how much I should have to pay someone for labor they supply to me?

I'm not worried about it one way or the other. What happens, happens. I do find it interesting that the Democrats are using every trick in the book to stop the nomination. Even some below the belt. But that is today's politics and if the shoe was on the other foot, the GOP would be doing the same thing. We have entered an era where both major parties are putting the good of their party five million miles above the good of the country. All I can do is shrug and live my life the best possible.

    So be it.

Frankly, the right of self-defense doesn't end at one's own door. You still have the right to defend yourself even if you're not in your home.

And handguns and shotguns are sometimes not the best choices for home or personal defense.

You're right, Heller is the law and the 2nd Amendment is not going away.
It's even possible that with Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, 2A advocates may appeal restrictions in Chicago & DC on AR-15 type rifles.
With Kavanaugh on SCOTUS those "Assault Weapon" bans may even be repealed in those areas.

I don't get how he can be gung ho to impeach Clinton, yet champion the Imperial Presidency working for W. But basically he's your big business Republican who will not accept any regulation on the power of the 1% to install the govt they want and to pay workers whatever they feel like paying.

I really don't see how the scotus could change the rationale of Heller. And that's a good thing, really. We have an individual/personal right to buy firearms. Any attempt at requiring people get licenses or training or insurance ... they'd all fail.

This tool for the corporatists who has also been exposed quite publicly for lying under oath will render EVERYONE'S vote in national elections null and void in favor of the a plutocrats but right wingers do not care that they are disposable and collateral damage for the industries that rule the USA. The very idea that a guy under investigation has a say in who chooses a lifetime SCOTUS appointee is retarded. Yes, I said it...retarded.

It is frightening, with one sentence he not only dimisses the second amendment but the entire Bill of Rights and the Constitution, and also the US form of government and the role the Supreme Court plays.

" Kavanaugh's aggrandized view of the Second Amendment, so out of step with both current trends and the will of the majority of Americans, would eliminate protective measures that keep Americans safe."

America is not a democracy, we are not guided by the will of the majority (thankfully), we have a constitution that protects All Americans, not just the majority. The writer of the article is embracing some very dangerous ideas.

Heller defined one of the lefts talking points about "militia".

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

    Now Heller........

It disconnects one of the arguments against the second amendment the left has labored ad nauseam for years.

    Originally I supported Kavanaugh.

Now that I know he isn't in support of upholding settled law, and now that I know he supports the NSA and blanket surveillance of the us public by the government, in addition to being a Koch funded federalist society asset, I have no interest in him being given a life seat on our highest court.

    Two thumbs DOWN.

Maturity? They have a well deserved reputation for pro Trump partisan hype, and frequently make things up, as this one clearly is.

Someone standing in front of someone else typing something on their phone proves absolutely nothing.

None the less the Gateway Pundit made up story got repeated on Fox Noise, and probably has been cribbed by the rest of the trash blogs.

SCOTUS Fight: It Seems Red State Democrats Are Totally And Utterly Screwed

With former Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl being tapped to serve the remainder of the late John McCain’s term, we have a decisive vote locked up. Kyl is going to vote for Kavanaugh, McCain would have a “yea” vote as well if he were healthy. The game is over. We have won. The votes are there for confirmation. It’s only a matter of time.

Yet for red state Democrats, it’s a question about survival. Do they want another term or do they want to please the rabid self-righteous hectoring scolds progressive base that is virtually non-existent in their respective states. Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, West Virginia, and Indiana are not hotbeds of anti-Trump resistance movement. Red state Democrats could back Kavanaugh, vote for him (he already has the votes), and ensure their re-elections. The downside is that they will be frozen out of Democrat circles, reap the ire of self-righteous progressives who will make their lives hell for the remainder of this election cycle and more to come, and be cut off form key fundraising and financial apparatuses essential to winning elections. Persona non grata.
