I disagree. If we're going to argue for "The last respected President" it would have to be the President who carried nearly every state in the Union during a Presidential election: Ronald Reagan. He carried 49 states in 1984 and would have carried 50, if he campaigned in Minnesota. With exception to Iran/Contra (which occurred due to his management style in trusting his administration to carry out certain duties in a lawful manner), he had literally no scandals. He was also the first person to blame the Government for many of the problems that existed in his day and rightfully so. He was certainly not a puppet.

You forget that there was an assassination attempt on him as well... I wonder what our calendar would look like had he been killed, or what the history books would be saying, or the mainstream media, etc.

All I know is I'm glad we had him to kickstart our way to the manned lunar missions. Imagine a modern Republican in office back then.. I think we might well have found ourselves trading nukes instead of racing to the moon.

That's why I think JFK was a good president; and that's why I would vote for him, if he ran for president today.

Republicans back then, however, were more Conservative. What would you have said to a Barry Goldwater Presidency, who was apparently a good friend to Kennedy - which makes sense, given Kennedy's economic views.

Republicans (with few exceptions) love to expand government and love to spend money. They now embrace many of the Socially Liberal ideals of the Left and continuously like to "reach across the aisle" despite Democrats not doing the same thing - which means they cave any chance they get (lack of steadfast principles or values). I'd love to get into specifics, but I have to pick up my kids. Perhaps I'll revisit later.

Something to remember is that back then the media was not so partisan and on a 24 hour news cycle. Also the times have changed a lot. If JFK was President I think he would be a centrist much like Obama. I also think he would think out and really weigh his choices and options for the country and the problems we face.

Obama has caved a lot to GOPers. Some of us the left feels he needs to grow a backbone. The GOP has moved to the center somewhat on Social issues because the country has moved. If voters voted strictly on Social issues, the GOP would be a extremely small group of elected officials. Most voters want to have the freedom to marry who they want, love who they want and chose what they do with their body.

Most voters aren't gay, so it's a non issue. Love isn't politicized - marriage is. Choose what you do with your body? The drug war is another minor issue, where probably 20% of the voting population gives a crap, merely because they want to get high. 80% either can't afford the habit, don't like it, or don't want to make it a habit, because they have better things to do with their time. These are percentages I'm pulling out of my butt, but I assume that's probably accurate.

I find it funny that Liberals think Obama is centrist. He hasn't caved to anyone in the GOP... he does exactly what he wants, even if that means circumventing Congress and the Constitution - he refuses to negotiate or compromise. He's one of the most Liberal/Leftist Presidents in our nation's history. He's up there with Wilson & FDR. How he can't be Left "enough" for you, is crazy to me, but it just goes to show that the Democratic Party is filled with Statists, Marxists, Socialists and Communists these days. JFK wouldn't have stood a chance.

Prove it. I think that is an entirely idiotic claim.

Simple enough- produce some evidence to support your assertion.

lol... Didn't we just go through this? Obama, one of the most Left-leaning Presidents in the entirety of the history of the United States, who has taken over a grandiose size margin of the economy through legislation and circumventing Congress and the Constitution, is too Centrist for Liberals.

    He's taken over student loans.
    He's taken over mortgages.
    He's taken over health insurance.
He took over 2 of our largest auto companies, before selling them off to the highest bidder and losing money on them.
He's also pushed the Fed into owning 1/3 of the entire US Bond market while falsely propping the Stock Market through Quantitative Easing to perpetuate the false notion that the economy is improving.

Meanwhile, he's attacked private businesses on a daily basis, while raising taxes/fines on industries he doesn't like (Coal Companies), while bailing out and propping up certain industries he does (Solyndra and every other failing eco/green company).

Oh I thought you were making a real claim- not the usual idiotic whacky right wing stuff where anything you don't like you call 'communist' as a knee jerk reaction.

    Thanks for clarifying that.
