If women are capable of serving in combat roles, then why aren't they part of the draft?

Well I hope that women who don't want to be drafted also think that women shouldn't be in the military. And the people against women being drafted,
would also have to be against women serving in the armed forces. So those people should be campaigning against women in the military NOW!

Because the law in the US was written in the early 80's and refers to men. Arguably, if Congress were to change the law, then they would be part of the selective service system, not that it really matters in practice.

Well my question wasn't, if women are capable of serving in combat roles, then why aren't they part of the draft as originally written in the early 80's?

You asked "why aren't they part of the draft?" Your question has been answered. Sorry if it rains on your parade to have an inconvenient fact interfere with your rant.

Which doesn't mean the draft "originally written in the early 80's."

They are not a part of of the draft because the draft written in 1981 specifically applies to males. Females are not males so the law does not apply. The USSC has said it does not apply. Have a problem with it, change the law. Until then they question has been answered.

When’s the last time anyone in the US was drafted into the military?

Well then, slide on over to the Selective Service website and see all the goodies that await a MAN who fails to register, then talk about "....really matters in practice"!!!

In the 80s they were not seen as capable of serving in combat roles. Hell, it was not till the 80s we allowed them to run more than 1500 meters in the Olympics. Men's view of women has always been based upon the mistaken view we are better than women

What's funny is you're making an issue out of something that isn't an issue. There is no draft and clearly will never be a draft. Just another case of people needing something to be outraged about. Good job!

You're confused about what the colloquial term 'draft' refers to.

The draft isn't purely for combat roles, is it?

nope. It never was. Though that is where most ended up because those that volunteered would get their pick of jobs.

There will NEVER be a draft regardless of what war happens? Surely you can't be serious!

So then there's no reason that women shouldn't have been drafted for as long as they have been allowed to serve in ANY military role, not just combat roles. Which may be for as long as the military has existed.

In other words no one has been drafted in almost 50 years. Which means you're outraged over nothing. Kudos

Surely I can be serious. The US was engaged in its longest war and no draft was needed.
