    It's a false dichotomy say the only choice we have is utter indiference to what happens in Iran, on the one hand, or sending in the 82nd Airborne, on the other.

    In the world today -- and this will be doubly true of the world that's coming -- all major nations have a vital interest in what happens in all others. We're too interlinked to be indifferent.

    It would be greatly to the advantage of the whole world, especially Iranians but also Americans, if Iran had a staWe'ble, democratic regime.
    However, the way to achieve this includes our government recognizing and trading with the actual existing government of Iran, which today happens to be a theocracy. The same goes for Cuba, North Korea, Communist China -- oh, wait, we already did this for China and look what happened!

    We've got to learn to play the Long Game. History is on our side. Most people in the world, and especially the younger generation, want to live in a prosperous, modern society, one where they don't have to pay a bribe to get into college, don't have to pay off a policeman at a traffic light, can open a business without having to have a 'partner', can read what they like, surf the web for what they like, travel when they want to. That's the kind of society we have.

    It's attractive power is enormous, and it's undermining tyrants everywhere. Just not as fast as we would like.

    Trump does not read or listen.. He could never abide by any policy decisions. His whole thing is "winging it".

    Plus, the Russians have got to worry about this: if they have any 'kompromat' on him, and reveal it ... he might respond by ordering a nuclear first strike. MAD at work. Nixon called it 'the madman theory' but Nixon wasn't mad, he only occasionally pretended to be to get the oher side's attention. With Trump, however ....

    Most oil producing countries in the ME stopped flaring off gas 30 years ago.

    Syria doesn't have enough oil and gas to even meet their domestic needs.

    Regime changes don't work out so well. Although Trump has proven that his brand of hard talk works quite well with these people. I would not be on board with any invasion as this will only strengthen ISIS and Islamic fundamentalism.

    They respect it a lot more than cash on pallets although they don't like it as much.

    Sometimes I can only shake my head over the American loss to the sense of reality and the stubborn ignoring of all facts.

    Everyone was free under the Shah ... I'm not laughing! He was just as bad as Ghadaffi or Assad ... except that he was a puppet of Wahsington, who brought him to power in the 1950s with a coup!

    Yesterday Rhouhani threatened the US as he has often before.. Today Trump said to them "Don't ever threaten the US again".
