I don't think people take Bill Maher as seriously as he takes himself. Even people who like his show seem to like it as entertainment and nothing more. I mean you don't really hear people repeating Bill Maher's monologues as political talking points..... He makes jokes.....people find them funny or they don't. He may offend or entertain, but treating him as any sort of influential political figure is off the mark, IMO.
Well he does have a lot of influential people on his show that usually agree with the crap he says. A lot of influential people in the media appear on his show.
I think Maher appeals to a certain level of intelligence audience, like a mixture of 3 Stooges verbal slap stick and shock jock sound bites. He seems to vibrate with barely masked self hate. His projection of this onto others is wholly observeable, particuarly christians. Carlin as an admitted nihilist, at least always gave a decent rant with intelligent humor.
It's a left wing circle jerk is what it is. They pat each other on the back, agree, and leave satisfied. People who watch it and agree with the points made will be entertained...people who watch it and disagree with the points made will be annoyed. It's net added value is null. It's a lot like Rush Limbaugh....except it's meant to be funny.
Good Boy...Now perhaps you'd be so kind as to explain this to some of the thicker members on this board...
