Israel and Iran on Path to War as Mideast Tinderbox Awaits Spark

There have been coups and revolutions, external invasions and proxy conflicts, but the Middle East hasn’t seen a head-to-head war between major regional powers since the 1980s.

There’s a growing risk that one is about to break out in Syria, pitting Israel against Iran.
The Islamic Republic’s forces are entrenching there, after joining the fight to prop up President Bashar al-Assad. The Jewish state, perceiving a direct threat on its border, is subjecting them to an escalating barrage of airstrikes.....>>https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...r-looming-as-mideast-tinderbox-awaits-a-spark

Iran is on a dangerous path to self-destruction.....Israel will not take much more abuse!

"The path to escalation is clear, and the rhetoric is apocalyptic. “We will demolish every site where we see an Iranian attempt to position itself,’’ Israel’s Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman told the London-based Saudi newspaper Elaph, adding that the Iranian regime is “living its final days.’’.........."

Iran....."living its final days".....let's all hope so. The Islamo-Fascists in Tehran operate one of the world's largest terrorist networks and they must be brought down!

And yet again, we'll find Russia backing the wrong team (Iran). Just look at some of the "winners" the Kremlin has chosen to align themselves with: Venezuela, North Korea, Iran, Cuba & Assad's Syria.

Trying to take down assad and syria, using proxies, is now creating the chance of even a greater war. Cause/effect universe and stupidity on part of the US, driven by PNAC.

How do you spell stupidity? This was to be expected, by those with good minds.

The PNAC neocons in DC are celebrating! Let us watch to see where their idiocy leads us. Want to make bets it is a good place? Proof is always in the pudding.

But in case you wonder about my position, there is no way in hell I would ever want a theocracy in Iran to have nukes. And I would be in support of blowing Iran back to the stone age if they ever began to work on them again. Of course, I would require evidence, but so would anyone with a rational mind.

Iran may not have invaded another country in the usual fashion but their proxies are causing trouble the world over....there's no denying that. Your statement is completely opposite to actual truth and reality. "Imperialistic Israel"....this is ridiculous!

"Now, the Iranians in Syria have graduated from helping Assad to “building their strategic presence against Israel,’’ said Paul Salem, senior vice president at the Middle East Institute in Washington. “It appears that neither the Russians nor the Assad regime are in control or can limit these things,’’ he said. “The situation is highly unstable and highly unmanaged.’’....."

Yeah, I do not view Israel as being imperialistic. Not like they have in aggression tried to conquer other nations to expand their own. What land they did pick up came from having war waged upon themselves, the spoils of being victors and in looking out for their own self defense. While I do not agree with all that the cons in israel have done, they are not imperialistic, as defined by the dictionary.

Yes their proxies are causing trouble, no doubt, Hamas, Hezbollah, come to mind. And they support those groups. Yet what other parts of the world are you referring to, where they are causing trouble? I see it from the radical sunnis. Of course there was that attack on the israeli athletes in germany long ago by Iranian shiites. But other than that, I cannot recall any.

So I guess you need to detail and clarify what you are saying about the Iranian shia, causing trouble all over the world. Just don't use the site you used before...ha ha.

read those books listed on my post (both of which were written by Israelis) and you will see that Israel is the world's biggest imperialist next to the USA

Then explain what you mean by being an imperialist. I never saw israel as being one, but my mind is open. I equate imperialism as following in the footsteps of hitler, or a more modern kind, what our CIA has done in south america ever since the end of ww2. A more nefarious kind of imperialism, driven by the business interests of our elites. Of course the communist revolution, our war against that was always the justification, but many times it involved US business interests which our CIA has always been their little private army.

I am willing to concede that there are books written by authors who would characterize the Israelis as imperialists but just because they have come to such conclusions doesn't make it true. I'm sure that there are books written by people who can reasonably argue just the opposite. In a lot of ways, books have to be outrageous to sell....just look at all the works proving that ancient aliens gave mankind a technological boost eons ago, or those supposedly providing convincing evidence that the earth is flat....all which can found in reasonable and educated authors!

I am pretty much in agreement with your views on Israel here....which appear reasonable and thoughtful....as defined by the dictionary!

Plan 9 From Outer Space and all that other stuff in the genre are clearly fiction. Israeli imperialistic terrorism and genocide upon the Palestinians is manifestly evident.

Well, besides Syria, Iran has its trouble-making fingers in Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq and sponsors the so-called "Palestinians" in their war against Israel!

That's clearly an ignorant comparison....and what's fiction is your silly attempt to label Israel as imperialistic and genocidal. You should probably cuddle-up to a good English language dictionary and discover what those words actually mean because you are just barking stuff out of your rear end!

The middle east is chock full of trouble makers, in case you only pay attention to Iran. The middle east is an anachronism, all of it. Except for more or less secular states which defy the norm in that area. And if we find one, hell, we destroy it, and must prefer theocracies, at least going by our actions.

But for me, and I can speak for the vietnam vets I get together with here where I live, we do not want another drop of american blood spilt in middle east for any of those backward barbaric bastards.

Sounds like a bunch of Israeli hawks wrote an opinion piece. Israel just needs to buttout of Syria, and let Russia and Iran deal with it. So far they are just helping the terrorists by weakening the other parties. Do note... it's Israel who has been beating the drums of war. It's them lot who keep on expanding beyond their border to ethnic cleanse around and thieve private property of others. It is the most condemned nation on the planet because of this.

Note to Natanyahu: Don't--the Palestinians are Sunnis and will never get along all that well with the Iranians. Keep your powder dry.

So all over the world is countries that they border and two other countries! The only terrorist country is Israel who desire chaos in the middle East and are in alliance with Daesh.

This is another totally ignorant and specious comment....one that might succeed in becoming the most idiotic of the entire week.
And it would be laughable if it weren't so sickening!

If they are desperate as you say they will do what needs to be done to make it so. That could be making an alliance with Israel against Iran and Assad. However with the belligerent stance the US has taken towards Russia, Russia's view of Israel has changed. Prior to that she was allowing Israel to bomb in Syria pretty much at will but Russia now believes that Israel is a proxy for the US and warned Israel that it would no longer accept her bombing and destabilising Syria. Of course Israel has since done a massive attack and said that if a response is given, Israel will attack Iran.

The latest attack by tomahawks indicates Putin will do nothing...if more tomahawks are launched again.
