As Israelis celebrate Sukkot, a Jewish religious holiday, sirens blared across half of the country before 6:30 in the morning. I've just woken up, and had to abandon my precious morning coffee and run to the bomb shelter in my pajamas. The attack is ongoing as I type, in other parts of the country.

    https://www.ynetnews.com/article/rysg8i0l6

Civilians are advised to stay home, close to shelters and out of the reach of the armed terrorists.

The part that will certainly be left out by foreign (to Israel) news sources is that observant Jews are commanded to spend the whole 8 days of the holiday in a sort of hut outside their homes. Such huts offer no protection against rockets or terrorist attacks. Keeping in mind that the civilians in southern Israel have only seconds to reach a shelter before the rocket lands on them, the danger is far greater than anyone not here can imagine.

My guess is that the attack was ordered by Iran (both Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza are proxies for Iran), in order to elicit a severe reaction from Israel that would anger the Saudis and ruin the chances for a deal between the two countries.

As usual, news outlets with reporters on the ground in Gaza are falling over themselves to hide the obvious, for fear of retaliation, with CNN leading the choir.

    https://edition.cnn.com/2023/10/07/middleeast/sirens-israel-rocket-attack-gaza-intl-hnk/index.html

I totally understand that CNN would want to protect the crew in Gaza, but couldn't they just say "Palestinian group Hamas", or "armed groups from Gaza", instead of the misleading term "militants"?

Another tour de force is not mentioning that the rocket attacks were directed at civilians, making instead feeble, laughable efforts to make it appear like a legitimate military attack against legitimate military targets.

I hold CNN, and other news sources like them, responsible for further attacks on Israeli and Jewish civilians around the world, since their reporting is so biased in favor of terrorists.

Hundreds of armed terrorists have crossed the border into Israel from Gaza. Iron Dome can't help.

At least six dead, 200 wounded in southern Israel, following rockets, missiles, and terror attacks. Armed civilians are fighting against terrorists who infiltrated several villages. Civilians locked in bomb shelters are calling for help. Whole families are under siege in 7 villages. The army is already there, but of course we're not told much about what happens. The other side is listening too.

Hamas is calling for a general uprising of Israeli Arabs.

I feel like a reporter on the front line...

We, Israeli civilians, are the front line now, actually.

One young woman in Kibbutz Beeri, one of the villages under attack from terrorists. called Channel 12 (broadcasting live since the beginning of the attack). She locked herself in the bomb shelter, and saw on a broadcast from Gaza her father paraded naked as a hostage. Her mother and grandmother were with him when he was abducted, nothing is known of their fate.

    Hamas must be destroyed now.

I had the opportunity to live in Israel for awhile years ago, I lived in the Tel Aviv Hilton and worked in Holon. Wonderful time. Wonderful place. Wonderful people. (Great food too!)

That's what I've heard about the attack on Israel so far:
    1. In the first 20 minutes of the operation, 5,000 rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel. There are fatalities.
    2. An Israeli Merkavá Mk.4 tank is on fire on the border with the Gaza Strip.
    3. Palestinian forces seized a police station in the city of Sderot. The exchange of fire is still ongoing.
    4. also allegedly captured the Israeli settlement of Be'eri and a number of houses in the settlement of Otef.
    5. Palestinian militants published photos of captured Israeli soldiers. If confirmed, this is the first case in decades.
    6. Captured civilians and Israeli military personnel are taken by militants to the Gaza Strip.
    7. Israel has announced an expanded call-up of reservists. A state of "readiness for war" has been declared.
    8. Ben-Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv is closed.

Trophies captured inside Israel are dragged to the Gaza Strip.

    Augmented:
    - Dozens of Palestinian militants in trucks and paragliders infiltrated from the Gaza Strip into Israel.
    - They reportedly took control of a police station in Sderot, took several Israeli military hostages and transferred them to the Gaza Strip, and seized several Israeli army vehicles, also sending them to Gaza.
    - The shootings are taking place in several locations in southern Israel. "Haaretz" notes that the militants entered the towns of Ofakim and Netivot, and according to police, took civilians hostage in Ofakim.
    - Some 80 injured taken to a hospital in Israel after rocket fire - media outlet.
    - Israel's defense minister says Hamas has declared war on his country.
    - At least four people have been victims of Hamas rocket attacks on Quseife, a Bedouin settlement in the Negev Desert in eastern Israel, the Times of Israel reported.
    - According to the mayor of the settlement, Abd al-Aziz Nassar, several other people were injured as a result of several rocket hits.
    - In turn, "Haaretz" cites data that the total number of victims due to Hamas rocket attacks on Israel exceeded 100 people.
    - The Israeli army began to remove military equipment, including F-16 fighter jets, from the south of the country in order not to give it to the enemy.
    - The video shows F16 fighter jets being transported by tractor trailer away from the sites of the clash. Anything that couldn't be salvaged in time is being seized en masse by the fighters.

    - Meanwhile, the head of the military wing of Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, Mohammed Deif, told about the beginning of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood. Its goal is the creation of a Palestinian state. Israel's defense minister said his country has been declared war. A total of 5,000 rockets were fired at it, and while the defenses were overwhelmed, saboteurs on paragliders broke through the border.
    - What's happening now: the Israeli soldiers who were captured are being taken to Gaza; civilians are trying to be rescued and evacuated. Some of them had to be rescued from Palestinians right as they were partying, picnicking and walking in parks.
    - Al-Jazeera reports the capture of the Kerem Shalom Israeli checkpoint.
    - Meanwhile, the Israeli army announced the launch of the "counter-terrorist" Operation Iron Swords in the Gaza Strip
    - The militant wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement issued a statement that it had captured some 35 Israeli military and settlers during the operation inside Israel.

And today you can feel what the people of Donbas have felt for eight years. At the time when Ukrainian fascists were bombing Donbas, but you only laughed and kept silent about it.
By the way, how many shells, medicines and weapons did Israel supply to the Ukrainian fascists?
How many articles in support of Ukrainian fascists have appeared in Israel?

The Palestinians said they fired 5,000 rockets at Israel. It takes two anti-aircraft guns to intercept one. Iron Dome missiles use a lot of money. And they didn't intercept all the missiles. All the coverage is Al Jazeera from the Palestinian side and the battle lines. There's no data on the Israeli rear. And there's a bunch of rockets coming in (God forbid they're unguided) ....
In a narrow area 5000 missiles, to intercept them you need 10000 SAMs (anti-aircraft guided missiles).
Israel has 9 batteries (from plan to 15) in a battery 3 launchers with 20 SAMs. TOTAL 540 - 900 SAMs on guided missiles. That's 270-450 rockets shot down. Yes with even ideally 900 missiles shot down. And the other 4100???
Besides for the computer 'LCD' launch of ballistic missile and launch of SAM of another battery are not distinguishable in that chaos. That's why some of the SAMs worked on their own missiles of neighboring batteries.
There is no way to predict the damage to Israel from this strike.

    1. Hamas says it fired 5000 rockets and missiles in four hours. According to our Channel 12, the number is more than 3000 since 6:30. I don't know how many people have been killed. There are more than 500 wounded.

    2. Don't know about that.

    3. There was an attack in Sderot, I don't know what the situation is now.

    4. Otef is not a settlement, it's the name of a region in southern Israel close to Gaza. Terrorists infiltrated a number of villages in the Otef region.

5 and 6. There's a lot of disinformation from Gaza - psychological combat. However, this might be true.

    7. Not "readiness for war". Israeli leaders are stating that this is in fact war.

    8. The international airport is not in Tel Aviv. I don't know if it's closed.

The goal of the attack is not the creation of the Palestinian state. It's jihad. Voices from Gaza are calling this war a collective suicide of Hamas leadership. There's hoping.

The Israeli army is fighting against the terrorists in the south right now. It's a house-to-house urban warfare. Not so simple.

But yes, the Israeli army should have prevented the infiltration in the first place. The attack was obviously carefully planned for a long time. It took us by surprise.

Top EU official says bloc ‘unequivocally’ condemns Hamas terror attacks
    https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveb...-unequivocally-condemns-hamas-terror-attacks/

Wow. First time in known history that the Europeans don't beg - or subtly threaten - Israel to show restraint. Miracles do happen.

I send health to all the Israeli wounded.
Seems to be more than 600... so sad .
Israel should change the disc and return Gaza to the stone age.
Any other situation will be wrong as Kalb Nasrallah is watching.

I don't know what Hamas thinks this will achieve. All it is going to do with this attack is alienate support from the international community, when support was starting to swing more and more their way. They must know Israel is going to bring reprisal that is far worse than what Hamas dished out. This is Iran trying to make martyrs out of the Palestinians.

No, nothing to do with Iran. Hamas are large enough to do it themselves. Would not surprise me if hamas were losing support as it has been quiet over there for some time and nothing like a conflict to unite the population again. Hamas have been trying to stir up The West Bank recently but with little success

I just hope that other countries don't get involved, particularly Russia
