Because it takes less than an hour to get to the US from many parts of Mexico and a few days from the surrounding islands vs 3 months by small boat to get to China... Is that a real question. JFC

They 'float' to Australia from Afghanistan, Iran and Sri Lanka by the tens of thousands. There are many countries they could hop off at along the way, but they don't, so it has nothing to do with proximity to their starting point.

They also tend to lose their identity papers along the way. Hmmm I wonder why?
