This man is Israeli and both of his parents are of middle eastern jewish descent. I tried posting this earlier but it didn't show up. He is well known in Israel and some mizrahim look like him, others are much darker like my dad and uncle.

This is another middle eastern jew (mizrahi). Again, very well known in Israel. He has white skin, light hair and blue eyes. A common misconception is that all middle easterners have brown skin. Its simply not true.

Genetic analysis of ancient remains from the region under discussion would probably shed better light on questions like ours more than photos of modern people.

This data comes from a few skeletal remains that predate the 1st century AD, but I thought it interesting that these ancient Mesopotamian specimens apparently showed mtDNA links with Indian people.

Genetic link shown between Indian subcontinent and Mesopotamia

I wonder what these kind of people would have looked like...

Interesting DNA study. The sumerians may have well migrated from central asia or ancient iran and they may have had contact with the civilization of Mohenjo-daro of the the Indus Valley. This might explain the link. Thats the best explanation I can come up with anyway, I have very little knowledge in the genetic studies of indian populations or of the history of the region.

Back to the topic of the thread, I noticed a lot of people on forums refer to jesus as an "arab jew" this is not possible, Jesus was of Hebrew descent, an entirely different ethnic/tribal group. That hebrew ancestry was later passed down to the mizrahi jews of today making them still hebrews, not arabs. Arabs lived in arabia at the time and didn't know hebrew or aramaic like Jesus did. Of course the jews of yemen have substantial arabian admixture, so they may be, at least in some cases, be called "arabic jews" or hebrews/israelites heavily mixed with arabs. Their israelite ancesty cannot be discounted, yemenite jews actually retain the most ancient and authentic pronunciation of hebrew in the world, so contrary to popular belief, they are not simply arabians who converted to judaism, some of them may be, but certainly not all. Some yemenite jews also have substantial sub saharan african admixture which explains their brown skinned almost 'black' looks. Yemenite Jews make Syrian Jews for instance look white in comparison. Syrian Jews are mizrahi, but they are also genetically closely related to sefaradic (spanish) jews and ashkenazi (german jews) according to the latest genetic research. In turn, ashkenazim also cluster genetically very closely to moroccan jews (sefaradi and mizrahi). All of this shows that the european jews have retained most of their middle eastern dna both paternally and maternally, with varying degrees of southern european ancestry (Italian, Greek, and French).

Jesus was most probably caucasian since he came from the Hebrews who have origins in the northern middle east and turkey and the caucasus. However since he was travelling outside so much and was a carpenter, he was probably heavily tanned. Tanning however does not indicate race. Its just the skins natural response to uv radiation.

the Hebrews were from the Fertile Crescent, and most people from the Fertile Crescent are Caucasians.

Another failed attempt at logic. Just because Hebrews came from Northern Iraq does not make them the same ethnic group as modern day Iraqi's. Thats like stating that because Quetzalcoatl was from America he must have been caucasian because caucasians make up the majority ethnic group in america today. This is very simple to understand.

Also what is interesting is your eurocentric point of reference. Notably leaving out the Ethiopian Hebrews who ironically are the only group that follow judaism who were isolated from the Asian and european invasions of the region and thus making them pure from European admixture.

The jewish groups you mention could and probably are recent converts to judaism, either that or from the tribe of Edomites who converted and as such not Israelites, given that Esau was red i.e white. Whites are called whites today but are actually red, that is the colour they go when exposed to sunlight. Very few whites are actually white, only scandanavians are technically white.

Thats due to the Aryan Invasion. Dont forget the myth also.

Middle east is a eurocentric term, middle of what? East of what? ask yourself that.

The Hebrews came from the Fertile Crescent. Logic suggests they looked like all other inhabitants of the Fertile Crescent.

    that's a very stupid & ignorant statement.

looking like an Israelite, doesn't make one an Israelite.

    Jesus was a man.

    He likely existed.

....but he most likely was NOT a black man.

no, I am using historians as a source for this.

most agree a rabbi named jesus likely existed.

but he most likely was not a black man, as most Jews back then were not black.

The Bible was written by men, and much of it is historical fact.

But much of it is also silly fantasy & wishful thinking.

iguess the silly fantasy bit is where it is stated that a blackman built the first cities in mesopotamia and that the messiah had kinky hair and bronze skin, hmm, will smith?? Or David Beckham?

Im going with a white man with black skin and curly hair.
