Hell, why not go for Nuclear Powered Centurions, with Gatling Lasers?

Funny, but Gunny Hathcock says the opposite.

We have a cyber warfare branch. And it is very effective, have you not heard of Stuxnet?

A missile defense shield is a fantasy, will never happen. At most it would be possible to protect a few key locations, but the "shield" a lot of people think of? Will never happen.

As far as "rare earth elements", they are really not that rare. They exist all over the world, they are only considered "rare" because of how few are in every ton of dirt.

And China rules there simply because they do not give a damn how much damage they are doing to their environment. Extracting these elements tends to produce a lot of hazardous waste, and China has little if any restrictions on this. So as far as I am concerned, they can mine the hell out of them for as long as they want. They are the ones now destroying the environment of their country simply for money, better them then us I say.

Huge areas of china are now toxic wastelands because of this mining. The fallout frmo this will be felt there for decades if not longer.

What happened...and it has happened several times and just in the last past week it happened again....it would seem my posting about what the plans would be as far as what would the U.S. Military do if Iranian Ayatollah's were stupid enough to actually puplicly anounce they had developed Nuclear Weapons.

Now Iran with it's Ten''s of Thousands of Centrifuges working 24/7....and there is another story to this how a Virus got placed into the Computer systems that govern rate of spin for the cetrifuges as the actual computer readouts showed the velocity of the cetrifuges spin to be what is necessary to extract WEAPONS GRADE URANIUM....but in fact the spin velocity was set wrong by this Virus or Programming and this set back the Iranian Weapons Grade Centriguge Program at least a year!!!

Anyways.....it is simple enough to build a 70 year old technology which can be accessed on the internet circa 1945 U.S. Gun Barrel esign Fission Bomb.

What is difficult is getting the Weapons Grade Uranium.

Iran has enough weapons grade Uranium to put together at least ONE maybe TWO Nukes.

If Iran goes public and declares they have Nukes....the U.S. would IMMEDIATELY GO IN!!!

    Why?

Because we cannot allow Israel to BOMB NUCLEAR SITES as the Radioactive Dust would poison the entire Middle East!!!

So I discussed what would most likely happen such as the sending in of tens of thousands of Rangers, Special Forces to SEIE ALL IRANIAN NUCLEAR SITES and supposedly a deal has already been made with the Iranian Navy and Air Force as well as the Iranaian Ragular Army as they would STAND DOWN!!

Those who would NOT stand down is the Iranaian Republican Guard, Secret Police, Religious Police and Qud's Force.

As Iran's population is over 70% UNDER THE AGE OF 30 YEARS OLD.....all we the U.S. need to do is wait a little while...5 to 7 years...and the Old Religious Guard will die out and Iran could very well end up being a new STRONG U.S. ALLY.

But Iran cannot be allowed to violate the NPT.....and that is the problem as we can't allow ANYONE to just sign the NPT....be allowed to purchase Reactors and Nuclear Tech they could not build or design on their own....and then BUILD NUCLEAR WEAPONS.

This would allow a PRECIDENT SO DANGEROUS THAT IRAN CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO HAVE NUCLEAR WEAPONS PERIOD!!

But we also cannot allow Israel TO BOMB NUCLEAR SITES...so we have to seie them.

We have several plans and we can handle this.....but after I began going on about this it would seem some.....members who don't seem to be just average members...started paying close attention.

In a war with a modern opposition with up to date body armor your probably looking at mostly head shots just make sure they are incapacitated, not sure it's possible to have many survivors with that. Land mines & booby traps would be more traditional for intensionally sending back wounded.

When U.S. Marines were sent back in to take Fallujah the Marines killed so many Insurgents with Head Shots there was an investigation as some thought this was executions.

What it was in reality were Highly Trained U.S. Marines taking out insurgents with head shots from distance.

The degree of stupidity depends on the degree of defend ability. Building one & using it against a country like North Korea were you might want to put down a lot of ordinance in a short amount of time without warning would be very advantageous. Against Russia - forget it.

You said East of Iraq so would I be getting closer with Iran or Pakistan?

The U.S. Military is dedicated to being Highly Mobile as well as being able to first use Stealth Bombers and Aircraft to destroy as many important targets as possible as well as to achieve not just Air Superiority but Air Supremacy.

Once Air Supremacy is achieved.....it's all over.

Since the U.S. has absolutely no plans to invade Russia the point is moot.

But Russia does not have the Force Projection ability to supply a viable military invasion force....Russia's Military is designed to protect the Russian mainland.

Something a bit off topic, Kangaroo shooters licensed in N.S.W., Australia (not sure about other states) are required to kill them cleanly with head shots only.

We tried that and ended up in WWI then we got a SNEEK ATTACK ON PEARL HARBOR.....thus that made us enter WWII.

We told the winning WWI European Nations over and over again that WAR REPERATIONS FROM GERMANY WERE TOO STEEP as people were starving in the streets of Berlin without JOBS and still Britain, France...etc....REFUSED to ease up on those war ereparation payments from Germany.

I read a book about this and at least over 250 TIMES the United States and U.S. Envoys and even the U.S. President warned the European WWI Winners that such steep War Reparations WOULD GIVE RISE TO A NEW GERMAN NATIONALISM AND THAT SOMEONE WOULD COME TO POWER AND PLAY UP ON HOW GERMANY HAD NOTHING TO LOSE AND PEOPLE WOULD FOLLOW THIS MAN!!!

    We called it.

    And his name was HITLER!!!

The responses from the Brits and the French to the U.S. were...."POSH! POSH! YOU ARE TOO YOUNG A NATION TO UNDERSTAND HOW THINGS ARE RUN AND DO NOT HAVE THE INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE WE DO WITH HOW TO HANDLE A LOSING ENEMY!"

When people are starving....they will follow anyone.

Iran, last resort weapon & the topic of the day being nukes on top of ICBM's.

    Guess three assuming that some silos could not be found or reached for whatever reason & it was decided not to depend on the patriots alone;

The US has taken wide bodied passenger jets out of the "bone yard" with only a few safe cycles left in the air frames & fitted them out with FEL lasers, power units & all related targeting & communication equipment needed to take out rising ICBMs.

That's crazy. 100 years ago the standard aircraft was a biplane, true machine guns had just been developed to the point of mass production and effective operation, chemical weapons had yet to be invented, the battleship ruled the waves, communications on the battlefield were through runners carrying paper messages. 50 years ago the F-4 was the premier US aircraft, computers were giant behemoth machines in giant labs, the Vietnam war was just getting started for the US.

You think the rest of the world is stuck between pre-WW1 and the start of the Vietnam War?

50-100 years? Are you on some DMT?

We have a slight edge in Air power, simply because we have huge amount of fifth generation planes compared to rest of the world.
We have large edge in Satelites and intelligence, but nothing that cannot be overcome.
Our officers, and soldiers are very well trained and have decades of real war exprience
Our Tanks are now slightly above average, based on Armata platform capability.
Drones we have edge in, but maybe 5 year edge.
    Cyber warfare we are lacking.
Our Fleets are supreme, but not invinsible especially taking into account the very capable anti ship missles and submarine fleets of our possible enemy.
So how exactly are we 50 years ahead? 50 years ahead would be like having jet Fighter Bombers B52s and M16 in World war one.

The head is a small target, most snipers aim for center body mass.

Carlos Hathcock said a lot of things. You'll have to quote him.

For you who don't know who Gunny Hathcock is, -> http://oldbluejacket.com/CarlosHathcock.htm

Navy SEAL Chris Kyle may have 255 kills, 160 of them officially confirmed kills, Carlos Hathcock has 400 kills, 93 confirmed.

During the Vietnam War, unlike the Army and Navy a Marine sniper needed two eye witnesses for a kill to be confirmed and one of those witnesses had to be an officer. Not having an officer present, over 300 of Hathcock's kills were not confirmed kills.

Which is that part of the body that would be covered by a modern bullet proof jacket if the opposing force had them. I assume the marines train for a worse case scenario & just followed that training as a matter of course? The insurgents may have just provided more training for the marines & an opportunity for a bit of in field research.:hmm:

Well, I've only held a modern military rifle in my hands one time in a service career that lasted nearly two decades. I'm the wrong person to ask about the combat arms, however...from what I understand, snipers are taught to shoot at center mass. As you say, ballistic armor is prevalent with modern armies, so perhaps a head shot is in order..however armies use ballistic helmets now also...so you'd have to aim for the face.

I've always considered head shots the realm of video game snipers, but again, I'm speaking from a limited area of expertise on the subject.

I am saying that there exists U.S. Weapons Systems some deployed some in storage for last use deployment that are as far as 50 to 100 years in advancement compared to other Nations.

Eve if we just look at the current U.S. Navy with all our Nuclear Carrier Battle Groups....it has taken the U.S. close to 100 years to perfect a Carrier Group....and considering no other Nation even has anything close to a Nimit Class or the new Ford Stealth Class Carriers with Mag-Lev Aircraft Catapults....how long do you think it would take either Russia or the Chinese to even develop a carrier of such capability never mind 11 of them?

Some small inaccuracies. Because our Navy has shrunk in size to pre WW l size, we no longer have any Carrier Battle Groups, they are now smaller Carrier Strike Groups.

We only have ten carriers today. Only two or three able to put to sea at any time.

Only three Carrier Strike Groups are able to put to sea during a national emergency today.
CONO said that it wont be until 2020 before the U.S. Navy will be able to "surge" three additional Carrier Strike Groups to sea during a national emergency. This sounds about right, it took Ronald Reagan over four years to repair the damages that was caused by the "New Left" in Congress and the Clinton administration.

Remember when G.W. Bush was able to put 8 Carrier Battle Groups to sea ? Obama has problems just keeping two Carrier Strike Groups on station in just two of the Navy's five AOR's on any given day.

50% of the Navy's ships aren't capable of putting to sea and being mission capable. When Obama became CnC in 2009, it was 13%.

I think I first read this book around 1981 or 1982. It was actually quite entertaining, and would love to find it again so I can reread it.

Actually, it was a single 747-400 (circa 1998), retired from the Air India Fleet. And it had at least 10+ good years of life left. It was converted into YAL-1, but it was not fitted with a FEL, but with a Chemical Oxygen Iodine Laser (COIL).

YAL-1 made it's final flight in 2012, and was scrapped in 2014.

No, Marines are trained to shoot for the "Center Mass" as well, not the head.

However, a miscalculation on the elevation of an A2 series weapon would easily place the round higher on the body then expected. I think more then anything else underestimating the range (say setting sites to 400 meters when it is really 300 meters) is much more likely the cause for this. Whenever on the range we see somebody shooting higher or lower then expected, the first thing we ask is for the shooter to double-check their weapon's elevation.

Your use of the words MISSION CAPABLE is the difference between a Carrier Group being Loaded for Bear or not.

It would take a matter of a few weeks to ready all our carriers for war.
