So I guess the question is do we let California and four auto manufactures three of which are foreign owned set fuel efficiency standards for all fifty states and all automakers. Seems like an inordinate amount of power to bestow on California and I have to wonder what the mindset is with these four manufacturers who want to make automobiles more expensive to manufacture. Are they hoping to drive less financially sound makers out of business and destroy competition?

"The Justice Department has launched an antitrust investigation of four leading automakers over an agreement they forged with the state of California to maintain higher fuel efficiency standards than those sought by the Trump administration, escalating the stakes in the long-running battle between the White House and California."

"The Justice Department declined to comment Friday, but two other federal agencies said the state’s deal with Ford, Honda, Volkswagen and BMW of North America on gas-mileage targets may be in violation of the law and warned of legal consequences."

Trump DOJ too busy trying to keep lining the Saudi pockets to bust Hillary for all her murders. Sad!

How dare those auto makers try to make their cars more fuel efficient without Trump's permission

California passes pollution laws and it is the auto makers fault?
    Sounds like more RW logic.

As part of the free market if they think more expensive cars with better mpg will win market share then they are free to build them. What they are conspiring with California to do is to force all manufacturers to build more expensive cars

California is the single largest consumer of cars which is ironic for a state that advertise its green qualities and if they can set standards for automakers to sell in their state those manufacturers are forced to change their entire fleet to comply which effectively makes the whole country California's subjects

So Trump wants to meddle with private industry and tell them how to make cars.

Trump wants to reign in government regulations that California is attempting to impose on 49 other states with the clout of its purchasing power.

CA is doing anything to other states, and the car companies are free to make what they want.

He is meddling with the car companies, they can build what they want, if he goes through with this.

What kind of logic is that ? Nobody is forcing them to change their cars for everyone ? They are saying “if you want to sell to the 39 million people of California, here are the rules”. They can sell whatever they want in other states.

guess “States Rights” is just a campaign slogan for republicans huh ;)

Not if they desire to sell cars in California. If they have to meet those standards they have to change their entire fleet and that's why we can't let California have standards of their own

You think auto manufactures can afford two lines of cars? One for California one for everybody else? Doesn't work that way. What kind of logic is that?

It's almost like California has a lot of power! Maybe because we're the fifth largest economy in the world and the most populous state? Regardless, Trump has been reduced to meaningless executive orders that will be reversed when he's gone. The latest Fox poll has Trump losing to Biden by 14, Warren by 6, and Bernie by 8. It will be one of those three.

You can't get anything shipped to CA.

I'm surprised you can get #2 pencils there.

Yes. They do it EVERY DAY. You understand that making a car more fuel efficient is as simple as a digital configuration change right ?

The worst criminal act by the auto makers is that they are planning on making autos fuel efficient so that they can penetrate foreign markets and make American cars competitive and increase American manufacturing jobs. Those scoundrels.
