Hospitals do TRY to collect. . . but one can't squeeze juice out of a dry lemon. And this is why so many bankcrupcies are related to the cost of healthcare. Hospitals have also resorted to "patients dumping," although it is against the law. . .that practice has continued even to this year. And. . . the premiums are NOT going to "double or quadruple" for the greatest majority of the people. Your comment about "addressing these problems of uninsured" in other ways is silly! You had your chance! In fact, the ONLY TIME an effort to fix our skewed, costly, and generally inefficient health care system was made was under another Democratic President. . .NOT under Bush 1 or Bush 2. . .NOT under Reagan or Nixon. . . The Republicans have had NO INTEREST in ever addressing these "problems," and now they can't stand it that a President who is a Democrat and the FIRST BLACK president in history has managed to get this law passed and reviewed by all branches of the government...as the Constitution requests. Maybe, instead of spending all those billions in that fake war in Iraq, your last Republican President should have looked at health care and address those "problems' in the way YOU would be satisfied with!
Yet, you still ignore there was a better way to fix this than turning the whole system upside down and giving it over to the government.
It didn't say she was pleased. It just said her monthly premium would be lower. Lower monthly premium means higher deductible. Insurance 101. What is it to me? It's the only 'positive' story you've been able to dig up. And it's not all that. Another real person from the official govt site. Like I said.... it's all about the money. Exactly. Nobody's ever been denied healthcare in this country due to lack of insurance. Obamacare is based on a myth.
Have to reiterate this point... Bill XXXX The wonderful thing about this law (sarcasm) is that it isn't about healthcare at all. This law is about the money. This law facilitates the largest transfer of wealth EVER. Everyone in the US has had access to healthcare. Some of us bought insurance, some folks didn't want insurance, some folks couldn't afford insurance. But NO ONE is denied health care. With all the community health clinics, Medicaid clinic, and ER's healthcare has always been available and plentiful. And those that buy insurance have helped subsidize those didn't. This cluster f@$k of a law is all about the money and power that the federal government will take from the producers and dole out to their zoo animal constituents.
Then why oh why didn't the good ol' GOP do a damn thing about it?? This is a start that I hope will finish well. We will see.
Yep, and that's where the socialism kicks in and we all pay outrageous amounts to cover those exorbitant costs. It will bankrupt the entire nation.
Let me state this someone only earned cash, never gets a tax return, has no banking accounts, few assets and no credit rating (thin file that doesn't generate a reportable number) and so have no way to collect and the persons income reported and taxes is near the poverty line how would you handle it? Go to court and get a court order that cannot be enforced since there is nothing to move against? That is my case it might go to collections but usually in six months they give up and after four years unless they have a court order they cannot move on the debt by law. In fact the very poor have it best and the wealthy its the working classes and Middle Class that have it bad IMHO in the system.
So. . why didn't your Republican heroes find that "better way" and proposed their own plan. . .as early as 2002 or as late as 2009? Show me that "better way. . ." By the way. . .the insurance premiums have been "doubling" over the last 10 years. . .PRIOR to Obamacare taking effect. In fact, the increase in premium has SLOWED since Obamacare started 2 years ago.
Nope. . .her premium probably didn't go down because of a higher deductible. . .but because (thanks to ACA), insurances are no longer allowed to penalize people for pre-existing conditions. And, no. . .It is NOT the only "positive story" around. . . .I just don't spend my time "chasing ambulances," as you seem to do. I just "fell" on that one when I read the article that YOU so kindly provided. . .article which you dishonestly stopped quoting when the "positive story" began!
being able to buy insurance across state lines(competition) for better premiums. Tort reform. Anyone with preexisting conditions go into a pool of their own. Pretty simple really. How about if you like your plan or your doctor you can keep it??? Lies, lies, lies!!!! FWI: premiums were stable or declining when Obama and the his ilk were fear mongering the people saying they were skyrocketing when they were not. Another FYI: I'm not for republicans or democrats...they both suck.
The best solution of all is free market competition among health care providers. Insurance has actually been acting against that for a long time now, long before the UCA came along to really screw things up.
Tell you what. . .if you feel that the very poor have it so good, and the wealthy have it so bad. . . why do you think the poor want to get richer and work their butt off sometimes with 2 or 3 minimum wage jobs to get just a little richer. . .while many of the wealthy just live off their investments. . .while they could resolve their problem with "having it so bad" by giving their money to those "lucky poor bastards!" Yes, it is true that, among the lower middle class, people seem to bare the brunt of being squeezed between the wealthy and the poor. . .and it is that section of our society that seems to grow at a faster rate, because they can't ever get to the next level of wealth! Still. . .I do not know of ONE person in the lower middle class or the working class who would change their standing with that of a very poor! I wonder why?
I do, I work to make enough to meet my needs with support of government and charity programs and pay taxes but I get by and have a comfortable very modest life. I would more if I had to but since I can work as much as I want as long as I pay my taxes and that is used for benefits its fine with the system. I would like the state to expand Medicaid but I don't mind just blowing off major medical debts.
You can pretend to know the future and predict that premiums will quadruple. .. and although I think that is ridiculous, I can't prove it (neither can you by the way!). However, the history of premium hikes between 2001 and 2011 is a FACT that can be verified. I provided with a factual source, why don't you go have a look at it You are drinking the tea party koolaid, and getting drunk on it. . . you don't even realize that you are no longer making sense! By the way, another group of people who will benefit from Obamacare are SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS. Here is another link. . .although you will prefer to ignore it again!
I'm not pretending anything...it's already here! That is what premiums are. I have stated before if I had to go into Obamacare and get the coverage I am getting now they would be $25k a year!!!!! The next plan down the gold plan they would be 20k a year. Sorry that is unacceptable!!! But hey, I actually may be able to afford that...others will not...many will not.
Someone be speaking truth to power here........it's all about a transfer of wealth..........has little to do with health care....
How rich it will be if the Dems are forced to delay the Indiv Mandate for a year... like they refused to do when Republicans suggested it. read more: http://www.americanthinker.com/blog...se_does_a_friday_night_dump_on_obamacare.html
Natural selection, in a way. That's what the free market is - a natural selection process for businesses.
Help me out - how would permitting that have made a difference? The way I see it, the hospitals and practices could charge higher prices because insurance companies were covering the costs anyway, and unlike you and me an insurance company can afford to do so - they simply raise their insurance rates. In other words, we lose price competition when there's a single payer-type middleman involved.
I mean, how would it work, if I get chest pains do I shop around for an emergency room? Get 3 bids? I'd still need insurance, who's shopping for my care? - - - Updated - - - And how would selling insurance across state lines reduce costs?
Why would you need insurance? The point is to have affordable prices through competition, eliminating a lot of the need for insurance schemes. We have the same problem with higher education right now - college has gotten ridiculously, unaffordably expensive. The problem is that colleges, like clinics, are no longer competing on price. They wouldn't cost so much to attend if middlemen weren't enabling their prices to soar, and neither would we have this looming student loan debt crisis.
