I paid for all of my education on my own. I haven't had any family for over ten years. They are all dead. No one helped me with anything. I have been on my own since I was 17 years old. Everything I have I earned.

You subsidized nothing for me.

PS. Indoctrination means educated in the right-wing lexicon!! They are interchangeable!! Tell them that there are conservative teachers as well as liberal, and that in higher education the political tendencies of professors tends to be aligned to the subject being taught, and they have no coherent response!! It is just anti-intellectualism, and it is rampant in the modern American right!! It is a large part of the reason why the Republican party has fallen so far, and how the Republican party and neo-liberal policy in general could have wrecked the world so badly, and yet still ignorant right-wingers still try to blame the left!!

Bias is impossible to avoid. As you say, all that matters is that a teacher divulges their positionality in the beginning, and then the student can make of the information presented what they will. However, a lack of bias is entirely impossible!!

It's a new one on me. I know a BS in CIS is fairly common. Never heard of a BA in CIS. It would be like having a BS in painting. Odd.

Why? Particularly smart people get their educations paid for, it is just the way of things!! Government thinks having smart and educated people in this country is socially valuable, and so does the ford foundation, fulbright, and hundreds of others corporations and charitable organizations!! Why would I not take advantage of the fact that government and other organizations are willing to pay for my education!! My graduate program will cost about 80,000$ for 2 years of tuition, and thankfully government and other grants are paying for that, plus a generous stipend!! Bitter and jealous right wingers will just have to live with it!!

I just didn't want all the loans afterwards. I didn't try hard enough when I was in high school so they were not going to give me any money.

I went to a high school were they bused you in to an old military base and you couldn't bring anything with you. No books, pencils, or pens. The bus would pull you up to a chained fence with barbed wire. You would walk down a little path and at the end of the path were cops who frisked you and metal detected you. I was one of only a hand full of white kids. It was something else I tell you.

They shipped in the prisoners in from jail every day to the school to get an education. It was good times I loved it.

 

They are willing to pay, because it is an investment in me!! I am in a highly desired field, and government thinks what I will do will be valuable to the country. They are therefore willing to invest in me, assuming I will make contributions in the future which will justify that investment!! Pretty simple really!!

 

Education is actually a really good investment for the country as a whole.

I am not in favor of subsidized anything but I can see the benefit none the less.

 

So what did you do to get expelled from the regular high school?

 

god forbid we do something fun to get our children to read, harry potter was a god send for children....

To tell you the truth I didn't get expelled. I felt more comfortable in that environment. I chose to go. I wasn't getting enough excitement from regular high school.
