I'm all for some sort of universal rule of restitution. Keyword: universal.

As in race should have nothing to do with it. Neither should taxes - that's not restitution, it's redistribution along racial lines.

 

What is the value today of the 40 acres and a mule that the congress passed a law to give them and never paid them. My guess is that today farmland in Nebraska (for example )is $2700 per acre and a mule is $1000. Sot that is 100,000 there was 4 million slaves at 100,000 each. Divide all that between the Blacks that can trace thier roots to Southern slaves my guess is about 3/4 of present population of 40 mill can.

 

Cherokee Indians owned a whole lot of black slaves while living on the Rez.

Last I read only something like 1/3 of blacks today can trace their lineage back to slavery in the US.

 

Kamilla Herris isn't one of them but she can trace her lineage back to owning slaves.

 

Lots of documented slave owning by the natives in that document.

 

But the cultural-marxist have declared that Native American Indians to be a protected class and are given a complete pass when it comes to slavery and owning slaves.

I think that was on both sides and records are pretty sketchy. But the systematic 2nd class citizen and civil rights infractions up till the mid 60s were felt by 90% of the Blacks. My take on the $100,000 times the 4.5 mill is still the figure for the total amount. How it should be broken up can be hashed out, but that is what the nation already agreed to.

While I have a deep respect for Marianne Williamson as a person, & agree with many of her insightful views about life in general & politics on some issues, I disagree with her making reparations her primary emphasis in this campaign. I agree that reparations are owed, but I feel the best way to pay them is not thru money, but thru finally accepting blacks & other minorities, who've been mistreated historically, as complete equals in American society by ending racism & prejudice based on color, now & forever. I think that action itself would be far superior as repayment than any sum of money could ever be. How does it help to pay victims a sum of money then continue treating them as sub-humans?

 

Since democrats were the slave owners, they should pay reparations.

 

Since conservative leaning state rights citizens were the ones who owned the slaves, I agree the ones who don't think it was a crime should pay.

A question for Ms. Williamson: if someone can trace their lineage back to a Union soldier who was killed in the Civil War, will reparations extend to them as well?

These posts just show your ignorance of history. The party of the progressive/liberal politics of the period of 1850-1912 was the republican party. Since that time the party beliefs have changed to each other. Teddy Roosevelt and Lincoln, Grant, Hayes etc all believed in the supremacy of the federal over the states, all wanted the Federal government to expand and started the first social programs of government and veteran pensions and healthcare. These are the principles of the modern democrat party. The people who started the civil war and kept slaves were the party of states rights and limited federal government are the conservatives. Which are you again?

 

Why has that ship sailed, slavery no longer happened? why do you think laws should not be enforced?
