The primary reason dems won't 'go it alone' is because of Manchin and Sinema, though Manchin might go for a $2.2 TRillion deal, don't know about Sinema, she ain't talking.

McConnell caved, he could have forced dems to do raise the budget in BR, and that isn't as easy as it seems. See, there is no guarantee that a vote will be held by Oct 18, given the difficulty progressives and moderates are having currently with each other, and the deadline which Yellen set for US runs out of money, and McConnell knows this, which means a default is entirely possible, on the horizon, as it were, and if that happened, McConnell will catch holy hell from his uber-rich donors, send America into a financial downward spiral, stocks might crash, etc.

And there it is, right there. McConnell blinked.

This was a clear victory for dems, and even Ted Cruz lamented the fact.

Because it is just political theatrics. The problem is if this happened in my workplace all these people would be fired. Like you said everyone knows it needs to be done they are just wasting time. Do your jobs and work on real issues.

Who is spending other people's money?

We know Trump loves to spend other people's money, he said so.

Your ridiculous TDS aside. Asking for a balanced budget amendment has nothing to do with the debt ceiling.

If I was charged with managing other people's money, of course I would stay within the limits of the provided funds, wouldn't you?

It's not wasting time. It's getting what each party wants before they agree to the increased credit. Because that's what it is, credit. The government has a no limit credit card. The credit can't go on forever unlike our universe. The day will come when the dollar bubble burst. Problem is most people don't see it happening in their lifetime. No one thought the housing bubble would collapse. Did we learn anything from that? NO! So on we go blindly.

I believe that you are saying is they can't go it alone without Manchin And Sinema. Is it possible both of these folks are being asked to hold out by their party so Democrats won't have to put their money where their mouths are? Stop with the hair on fire ranting, it will get done.

In hindsight, I think I see your point a little more clearly, and you have probably touched the 'nerve' of what caused McConnell to 'crawfish' on this year's version of the jack-up-the-debt-ceiling drama: "McConnell will catch holy hell from his uber-rich donors, send America into a financial downward spiral, stocks might crash, etc." Bingo!

It's likely that a lot of ordinary, average middle-class people (like moi) couldn't care less if the government shut down for a few months -- so that we could see what's so REALLY so necessary and so valuable in what we lavish tax money on, and what is not!

But everybody's über-rich hedge-fund donors -- including those who pay Mitch McConnell's way -- would probably **** their pants, because the intricate, labyrinthine passages, tax-dodges, and other 'mysteria' the rich channel their millions through would become immediately disrupted and constipated.... After all, look at what a panic occurred in the "Repo Market" just two years ago -- and that was before the virus appeared on the world stage! The almighty-god, already-bloated-beyond-recognition stock markets were severely "rattled" because of a spike in interest rates (Oh, the horror...!). The Fed immediately sprang into action, stuffing even more tens of billions of imaginary dollars into the markets, which gave the stock-market gamblers, trust fund children, and others confidence that the Fed's 'potty-training' and 'flexibility' (which began in earnest in 2008) would continue for years longer.

My point? Imagine what a 'repo-market-on-steroids' scenario would do to McConnell's donors if the severely unprepared over-leveraged banks AND the government became inert, even for a week (let alone two or three months). So, Mitch caved (CAVED), pure and simple, even though, as it was, he had the Democrats BY THE BALLS!

Historic comparison: when Octavian and Antony squared-off for the Battle of Actium, it was fairly clear that Octavian (McConnell) had the advantage -- but what if he had just sent word before the battle to Antony and Cleopatra (Schumer and Pelosi), saying, "Nope... the risks are too great. You guys win... I'm going back to my villa, kick back with my rich friends, and let you guys run things from Alexandria...."

We need to change that. We aren't powerless, but, we do have a habit of trusting the untrustworthy, a flaw we can improve. Trust, but verify.

And don't forget that, while you say most working class folks won't care if the gov shuts down for a spell, that may be true for the millions in the class, but there are close to 400,000 non essential federal workers who will not get a pay check, and they will make a lot of noise.

    Just sayin'.

Yep... you're right. Ooh, what ugly 'press' it would make if 400,000 non-essential "civil servants" had to leave their comfortable government-provided, 'gravy-train' jobs and go earn a REAL living in the REAL world. You can bet that would equate to 400,000 pissed-off voters who would be looking for revenge on whoever the mainstream media tells them caused it!

Ha... I guess ol' Mitch managed to 'dodge that bullet', at least for awhile... but the lib-media will still be there next January....

"COCAINE MITCH PLAYS FOR KEEPS": McConnell Tells Biden, ‘You’re On Your Own’ When It Comes to the Debt Limit.

    Corrupt, Volatile and Stupid.
"Schumer tried to lay the entire blame for the debt ceiling increase debacle at the feet of Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Senator Joe Manchin's efforts to lower the temperature in the Senate were blown up by Schumer’s ridiculous partisanship."
That's not because Democrats think they are winning.
"McConnell had to twist a few GOP arms to get the 10 votes to bring the debt limit increase to the floor" to save Democrats from screwing the pooch.

For 4 yrs, there was not a peep from the RW about debt and deficits. The RW cut tax revenue and increased spending and cheered.
Now their reckless borrow and spend policies needed a debt ceiling increase and they whine about it?

Stop being hypocrites and if debt and deficits bother the RW party, tell them to stop reducing revenue and increasing spending.

R party = borrow and spend
D party = tax and spend.

See the common theme between them? Only 1 attempts to pay for it and one borrows if for their kids and grandkids to pay.
That's the way of the boomers isn't it. Borrow borrow borrow. And whine when they are short of money.

You got that wrong. The prior spending of the previous budget, the one we are currently in now, is why the debt ceiling needs to be raised.
The money was spent and the bills are coming due.
Not raising the ceiling means some bills don't get paid. That will reap financial hardships all over the world. Likely cause a recession worldwide.
    As I understand the issue.

And, Hesus, they swore up and down that the tax cuts for the 1%ers would cause amazing GDP growth. They were wrong again.

Interest rates play are far far larger role in GDP growth than taxes do. The tax mantra is something that may have been true under the gold standard when there was limited options for growth.

No, reducing spending will do even more good.

When the money was spent, it didn't exist. We call that printing money. It doesn't have anything to do with debt.

You don't understand it very well. This is all fear mongering that occurs every time the borrowing limit needs attention. They pay the bills by writing checks, not by borrowing more money. My advice to the government is live within your means. Stop borrowing. Stop printing money. Reduce spending. Do what is right. Of course, they aren't listening.

Eventually even the boot politicians fall in line with the spending in Washington. It's a virus in Washington, DC.

When these half-witted, fiscally-irresponsible Libocrats are able to saddle this beleaguered country with the stupendous burden of their THREE AND A HALF TRILLION DOLLAR welfare bonanza, that doesn't upset you...?!

Remember "Messiah" Obama's wonderous "Solyndra" initiative? That debacle, so typical of radical Democrat aspirations, only wasted 1.628% of the money that this new series of Democrat adventures is going to cost.

    What's next...?
