Well in geopolitics its an historic fact, that peace in europe is only possible when Germany and Russia are at good relations. Russia is not our ally, its a partner.

 

Germany as a recognized, nation has not been around that long. Partnership with a dictator led nation, does not make good world optics, albeit almost all nations do. Putin has attacked his neighbors in his aggressive policy of expanding his interest. Poland is clear with their policy with Russia and Germany borders Poland, they just don't have the resources that Germany needs at this time. Your personal foreign policy is simplistic when juxtapositioned with the rest of German neighbors.

In all those hundreds of years, peace in Europe was only possible, when Germans and Russians were in good relations.

Putin works as stabilizing factor in Russia. He holds stability and prosperity. People there remember very badly when Yeltzin ruled.

Peace without good relations between Germany and Russia is impossible. As the most powerful nation in Europe it is from highest importance that our nations work with each other.

On the other hand, USA has nothing that we need. No rescources and no histoic connections.

A europe where Germany is hostile with Russia, is a europe in conflict and war. I understand thats this is in USA interests, but not in ours.

That said, Germany will build up stable and fruitful relations with Russia. We will widen our energy cooperation, investment and solve international issues with Russia.

To give one example, Germany wants get rid of syrian refugees. While USA has zero influence in Syria, Putin has that influence.

Assad planned a law to confiscate the property of syrians who left. This would let Syrians be stuck in Germany.

Who did Merkel call to stop this? Trump? Nope. She called Putin. It took not even 24h and Assad pulled the law back.

Another factor is, that as US influence in the world shrinks, Germany looks for new partners. Thats totally normally behavior.

 

Ok, it was part of the holy Roman empire, and the kingdom was not constant, and by your link was a confederation. I was referring to Germany as a nation. Not a big issue with me.

You seem to have left out France and the hapsburg empire and their influence.

All that is fine, again, incidental to the issue of Russian influence. You still need to deal with Poland, you cannot ignore them.

Poland is a dwarf nation with no influence. As you see we ignore them quite often. Nordstream 1 and Nordstream 2 come to mind.

Its a german political imperative to ignore Poland.

I never said the USA was a confederation.

So Poland is useless to you, maybe you guys can split it up like last time.
