I have to say, I found this Morning Joe segment hilarious! I don't think there is a better representation of the cluelessness of the establishment, managerial class. Matt Taibbi lays it all out for my entertainment.

MSNBC, Paul Krugman Panic Over "White Rural Rage"

“Tom, I’ll start with you,” began Mika Brzezinski. “Why are rural white voters a threat to democracy at this point?”

Fastball delivered, University of Maryland professor and co-author of just-released White Rural Rage: The Threat To American Democracy Tom Schaller took a swing. He and Mika first complained rural voters should be supporting Joe Biden, given his roots — you’d have to be pretty high to call Scranton “rural,” but whatever — then Schaller read off small town America’s charge sheet: rural whites, he said, are the most “racist,” “xenophobic,” “anti-immigrant and anti-gay,” “conspiracist,” “anti-democratic,” they “don’t believe in an independent press or free speech,” and are “most likely to accept or excuse violence,” for starters.

White Rural Rage, which I made the mistake of reading, is a vicious manifesto in the anti-populist tradition nailed by Thomas Frank in The People, No.

Can we panic over the rage of other colors? Nope. But attacking people who are considered to be conservative is always fair game.

When I turn on the news, the rage I most frequently see comes from antifa, blm and anti Semites. Are there any videos of this alleged white rural rage?

Do you have any actual commentary on their hateful fear-mongering to the left?

The last person I knew that gave a damn about the color of any one's wrapping paper who wasn't a democrat has been dead for damn near 20 years now. Far and away the most intolerant people I know are leftist. The book in the op fully demonstrates that fact.

It's because a large number of areas and regions in the U.S. have been falling behind.

And not only just rural areas. There are also big cities in declining regions of the U.S. that have fallen behind, for decades now. Many of those particular cities may not be enthusiastic about the current Democrats, but they are not going to give their votes to Republicans either.

My mom lives in a small town (3,500 people) in Nebraska. Murder is nonexistent and crime is almost nonexistent. The vote is nearly 100% Republican. The community is very conservative and extremely high trust. These are the communities that the Democrats are desperate to get HUD housing into. Thriving self-reliant communities make them look terrible and must be attacked and destroyed.

Any group of people, not matter their characterization, who support Trump are a threat to democracy. Surely that doesn't come as a surprise to anyone.

No, I'm not into MSM. Why do you allow TV deprive you of your peace?

The article says: "rural whites, he said, are the most “racist,” “xenophobic,” “anti-immigrant and anti-gay,” “conspiracist,” “anti-democratic,” they “don’t believe in an independent press or free speech,” and are “most likely to accept or excuse violence,”

Are you saying there is no truth to it whatsoever? Based on what they say in social media, I'd say there is at least some truth to it. Its how they come across. They are the ones talking about the need for civil war, shooting people at the border, and they bought the conspiracies about stolen elections, "fake news media", Covid conspiracies, and they'll always remind you about the crime rates of black people, etc.

Such resentfulness is not healthy, but it is what it is. They are free to voice their opinions.

I'm having a hard time finding incidents of this "white rage". Oh wait, there was some actor in Chicago that got assaulted by 2 "maga" people with noose. Sorry, my bad, I forgot about that one!

Because he, and others like him, has a need to be outraged about something. Life is WAY too short to get worked up over every little thing.

Well we all Know why that is, when a leftist has no rational argument they always resort to calumny which is the moral equivalent of a 3 year old Sticking his ears and running away screaming I can't hear you. And frankly should have no more impact on the hearer than the re-issuance of RWR's one line retort to his first presidential opponent "there you go again."

That statement was so bigoted against a specific group of people that objective minded people of all political stripes should condemn it.

Hmm...... have you actually heard this "cry"? I have not. Glenn Beck tries to play the victim card, but not very successfully.

I'm one of 17 cousins who all grew up on farms in the same county in the '50s. Of the 9 who got college degrees, 6 moved to a suburban area. Of the 8 with high school education 6 stayed in rural/small town locations. I believe that this would also be the situation for my high school class, and generally what has happened in the county for the last 70 years. Population of the county has declined on farms and gained slightly in the county seat.

The result is that there has been a considerable sorting of people by education and outlook between rural and suburban areas.

Oh I definitely used to. I probably watched them most mornings for at least a decade. It was useful intelligence gathering considering the real audience for the show. But over time the constant and persistent insanity of it just got to be too much. Mika's comments on the link are a good example!

Anyone who watches political pundits on EITHER side simply doesn't have an ability to think for themselves and needs to be spoon fed. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
